This happens whether i launch the game via Steam or the EXE in the x64 folder. The x86 version results in a fatal error (memory access violation). Running as administrator makes no difference.

    Tried it, didn't work.

Tried it, didn't work, even after restarting the computer.

They are up to date. Also ran Windows Update for good measure.

The only thing i can think of that is most likely causing a problem is that i'm using two monitors. However, i tried running Starbound with one disabled and nothing changed.

I've never installed mods for this game.

I've noticed that Starbound has issues with AMD CPUs, so that may be the issue

just in case thats not the issue, what is your GPU? if you don't know where to find it, press Windows key + R and type in dxdiag and run. this will actually give a lot more info than windows settings about tab or control panel

I used to play a long time ago when there was a launcher and it ran fine. Also, i tried installing it on my laptop and it runs fine on there (but i don't want to play on my laptop). The laptop has an AMD A-10 APU with an AMD R6 discreet GPU. And i noticed that on the desktop, starbound.config and the player folder are never created. It crashes before that. I tried copying those files over from the laptop but it still crashes.

u hav pretty much the same GPU as I do, so the CPU has to be the prob here. I can't help u further, but some1 else might be able to

Thanks for trying. I don't expect to get any more help here so i sent an email.

EDIT: A week later and no reply from the email. Where is the support?

I finally got this to work no thanks to Chucklefish support. Sent an email over a month ago and never received a reply. I'll never buy Chucklefish again.

Here's what i did in case it helps anyone else. Part of my problem was that the game crashed before it created the starbound.config file.
    1. Removed the Starbound profile from Radeon Settings.
    2. Deleted the win86 folder from the Starbound directory, leaving only the win64 version.
    3. Back in Radeon Settings, Gaming -> Add -> Scan; this re-added Starbound to my profiles list.
    4. Tried running starbound from double-clicking on the shortcut on my desktop.
    5. The starbound.config file finally appeared in the /storage folder. I opened it in Atom (a text editor) and set "vsync" to false.
    6. Game now runs.
Bottom line: if the game crashes on start and you've never used mods, the problem is probably vsync based on this and other threads that i've read. If you can get it to produce /storage/starbound.config, then edit that file to disable vsync.

I did this, but my game's still not working
It was working fine yesterday, but now it's not.
I've deleted absolutely everything on my computer related to starbound, and tried everything above. I've reinstalled it cleanly, and my game just starts, gets to the first loading screen with the small dial in the bottom right, and instantly freezes.
Am I supposed to get a new computer?
