Like the chap said right here, we did not formally invest in anything. There are no formalities involved here, but money was involved, so I have to partly disagree with you there. Like what this dude said right here, we "supported" the development of the game, not pre-purchase it. Pre-purchasing is completely different from "supporting", as pre-purchasing involves consumer rights, and the said game is already/almost completed. We're just purchasing ahead of time, thus, giving as an "edge" (as how publishers like to call it) over everyone else. For SB, it was an entirely different case, and Adamiks pointed it out right here in his post.
I think there might be a fair argument to be made that a Vita version is financially unwise at any time. HEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
As far as I can tell, this is a port in the proper sense of the term, where the existing code is translated(though with C++ that shouldn't be an issue) and adjusted for compatibility. I'm operating under the assumption that this port will modify the interface, maybe have it hook into DirectX12 instead of OpenGL, and add hooks for the XB1/Win10 "Games" system, leaving the engine more-or-less unchanged. In short, yes, multiplayer should be possible, and if my assumptions are correct you could probably even plug in modpaks.
Late to the party. I am super excited for this. Xbox Game Preview is an awesome idea and I can't wait to play Starbound from my sofa.
What I'm more interested in is, the Windows 10 App, and such. Since I'd love to play a game with some of my more console leaning family- and friends whom don't operate with a PC. I haven't gotten a lot of information from this thread. I'm curious if I'd have to pay for a Windows 10 copy- if I already own a PC copy. It is unfortunate if I do. But I'd consider that blood i s thicker than water
Dear Chucklefish I bought Starbound the week it was released, have played over 800 hours the last time I checked, and while I would love nothing more than to see Starbound finally officially released and moved out of Early Access, I think it's such a special game with great atmosphere and interesting lore, that I would happily wait another 5 years and get the true original vision of the game, rather than have some rushed compromised "design by committee" excuse for a game, so please ignore these impatient children who seem to find endless ways to steer the topic of EVERY SINGLE THREAD back to locking down a time line for release and making petulant demands. It would seem that a lot of people need to learn how to read too, as it was clearly stated in the OP, a separate team will be working on console ports, so all these comments about how the PC version needs to be finished and prioritized first are moot points. Keep up the good work Chucklefish, please don't be disheartened by the "moremoremore monsters" who can't see the wood for the trees. Signing out! P.S. I think it would be interesting to have a Straw Poll to see how many people vote for a rushed finished product out this year vs the original vision out in 2-3 years. Usually it's the impatient complainers making all the noise whilst patient content people are happy to go about their day and not flood the forums with negativity so although it may seem like a lot of people are angry, I'd put my money on it being a small vocal minority. /end-of-rambling
Wow...this thread gave me cancer. Anyway, I'm totally happy for the Xbox version. Can't wait. Also, for all the haters, more money = more development! Cheer up, buttercups!
"It would seem that a lot of people need to learn how to read too, as it was clearly stated in the OP, a separate team will be working on console ports, so all these comments about how the PC version needs to be finished and prioritized first are moot points." Yeah, but this team could work on PC. You know, these guys also need money, it's not like that they work for free or something. And if they're working already they could help in developing full game not console version. "Also, for all the haters, more money = more development!" The point of "haters" (people who don't agree...) is what kind of development. Developing console version isn't useful in anyway for PC users that just want to see finished game first.
At this point the game is fast approaching release status regardless of Xbox One.....it may add a few months but this game is absolutely worth the wait regardless. The good news is that they will most likely release on PS4 too since they point out they will go for other consoles after the game reaches release status and the PS4 doesn't have an early access system like Xbox does but I'm happy about it. Games like Starbound with really solid and awesome early access delivery are rare and more often than not results in disappointment so I think Sony has the correct idea by steering wide of doing an early access thing.
Yeah i heard that on the Xbox Conf. - Awesome. I hope the Console Version also get(like Terraria and Minecraft) a Splitscreen Multiplayer =)
It would seem you need to learn to read too, friend. I think you were just selectively reading what the angry mob was saying. If you check it out again, I don't think anyone wants to rush it. If you really did play it the week that the game came out, AND read before you pledged for support, we were all given a date. Mostly, people are angry that they took a "long vacation", long months where no word was even said on what was happening. So again, no, people do not want a rushed game. People are angry of an entirely different thing. People now seem to be rushing because it was fundamentally CFG's fault. Let me ask you, friend: If I showed you a Powerpoint presentation of a seed that will grow into a mango tree in 3 years, of which you'll just have to pay me in advance, only to see the seed only grow 2-3 soft stems in the said amount of time; in all honesty, would you be happy and still forgiving about it as you are now? No, I sincerely doubt it. I would reckon you'll be exercising your "consumer rights" if such, and would complain how you were falsely advertised on. Being positive and optimistic is good bro, but not being open to the reason as to why people are angry, and bashing them for it, is rather more immature than complaining. (This goes for the people trying to look cool as well by standing against the angry mob. It ain't the cruise control for cool, and so is correcting or replying inconstructive, smart-ass replies such as "When you start the sentence with...", or "When you say you're hoping... ...it probably won't happen.".) "He who argues with a stupid person is more stupid, if not on the same level"
are you still working on ps4 edition as that will be so amazing and if it is released I might try and buy on release date[DOUBLEPOST=1440434316][/DOUBLEPOST]oooh will the console versions have servers and server hosters
Pooling teams together is more efficient than seperate teams. One building block at a time. Splitting resources is never good in the game industry, regardless if these resources happen to come from different locations/owners/whatever. Pulling the other team in fold would allow for more content to also rise and to get things done faster. Plus more eyes to check for errors and make adjustments. So a fuller product overall. Ports can be made after an initial release. These weren't moot points. As for rush job, I really couldn't care anymore if this took another 10 years to complete. Heaps better things I could be doing with my time than waiting, mulling over that some day soon I will see a completed Starbound. If i am desperate, there are plenty of decent alternatives. Only expectation is that Starbound wont be rubbish due to being crossplatform, rushed, neglected, casualized....
Well the game is now in the final three updates before 1.0.....is this thing on Xbox One now? If not it sounds like it's too late to start an early access thing on there so it sounds like the plans for early release to Xbox via its early access thing were cancelled altogether.
