Starbound & Christmas

I was thinking recently how Christmas is just a couple of months away, and got to wondering if Starbound will have any kind of Christmas holiday "themes" during that time of the year, e.g. decorations hung around the NPC villages, Xmas trees for your ship, and so on. But I know that Christmas isn't the only holiday out there, some celebrate Hanuka. And that got me wondering, if not Christmas or Hanuka, will each Starbound race have their own established holidays which they might visually celebrate? And would they be at the same or different times?

 

I'm not sure if any of these things are in the game. Nobody but the devs does, I presume and truth be told I'd rather the devs focused on adding the essential stuff, so we can have beta out sooner, than just a couple of festive thingies for celebrating holidays. Though post-release I presume we'll get some holiday-themed thingies like Hylotli New Year or Christmas (Though technically those things really lose meaning in space due to lack of fixed time frame ).

 

Well I didn't necessarily mean will such things be worked on soon. I meant are any such things planned in general. I know the devs are working hard, and I know there's a lot they've not yet told us. For all we know there could already be holiday stuff in the game and finished. lol

 

assuming the time in starbound is many years into the future, religion has probably made drastic changes in the human race.

people used to believe in that, but new ideas formed.

 

Plus meeting other intelligent lifeforms would pretty much kill any religion based on "Humans are special" thing.

 

From my experience, Christmas isn't much about religion anymore. It's just simply fun for people to do, and people want gifts.

 

Depends on the part of the world you're in. Here in Poland saying thing like that would probably get you at the very least weird looks from some people.

 

It would be fun if there was a little bit of stuff for different universal holidays, but I'm not sure how it would work. Maybe Christmas-y music could play in winter biomes on and a bit before and after Christmas Day. Not sure if I'd want them to adopt too many holidays though, like Halloween and what have you. It might get too distracting and downright annoying.

That's hard to say, since for me it's completely religious as opposed to commercial. This would apply to millions of people, I'm sure. For those that do not believe in Christianity, however, it's just an adopted holiday that's about gifts, family, etc. Depends on who you are.

 

I don't want to have christmas music blaring the first time I visit a snowy biome. Maybe next year, but adding holiday events at release is pretty stupid

 

Perhaps christmas lives on to space.
Upon talking to a human, he says "Christmas is great! I love giving people gifts!"

You would have speech options.
1. "me too!"
the man replies
"great!"

2. "Isn't christmas about the birth of jesus?"
the man replies
"Who? Oh yeah, I learned about that guy in school. Nobody really believes in all of that anymore. _______ is the real religion!"

3. "Yeah, whatever."
the man replies
"Wow, I never met someone who hated presents. You must be a real grouch."

 

Maybe they end up calling it Giftmas.

TBH Just be happy if the beta comes out before Christmas.

There was talk about this in another thread and someone suggested holiday themed planets that would only be visit-able during the week of said holiday, that imo would be pretty cool and something I could get into. that way once you've had your fill you can leave the planet and move on instead of having to bear with all the corny Christmas stuff until the theme is over.

I don't think week of the holiday.
It should be a random event.
I really hate it when games have exclusives on certain days.

 

With a random event some, if not many people will miss it and rant and rave about how it wasn't long enough etc. etc. I think having themed planets added in during the week of would give everyone an opportunity to visit said planet and have their fill then move on.

To each their own .

 

I wouldn't rule out holiday "events" of some kind (even if it's just furniture or something) but I'm not sure it would come so soon (if ever). I think continuing to focus on the rest of the normal game would be the priority right now. I'm not sure we have the time atm.
