Almost every single last one of us played Terraria, and I know that Building was a HUGE portion of it. (at least for me) Most people are not epic builders like some of us, but I still think that there should be enough bricks to satisfy the Terrarian Builders. If you are not a big reader, you can read the Catagory in blue, or the idea in yellow, and skim ideas. ________________________________________________________________________ Bricks, Blocks and Plates Titanium/Metal/Steel Plating. - Should be the basic metal block. Could have a plain, grey color, and if Starbound has walking noise (which would be a nice addition), it should make a noise appropriate for metal.Crafted with 2 steel/metal scraps/components/whatever it is when the game comes out. Native, normal bricks - Each Planet (from my understanding so far) will be completly different. Each Planet should have thier own, default brick. Crafted by 2 of the planet's most ubundant and hard resources. (like stone from Terraria) Space blocks. - Space should have many things floating around, and things that are very rare. Asteroids should spawn with rare ores on them sometimes, and should also be able to be made into certain blocks (asteroid brick). Or maybe even (if moons are added) moon blocks. (PS ~ Meteors are just Asteroids that go in Earth's Atmoshere, so technically, when they are in space, they are just Asteroids) Ice, snow, and element blocks - Since it is aparent in the Spoilers Tiy gave us, I am sure that ice planets will be asessable, and would make for some amazing Ice castles, snow igloos, ect. Ice brick Crafted by 1 ice, and 1 stone, or what ever other abondent rock there is. Snow brick should be the same as Terraria Because the ores/items/planets/blocks are very unpredictable for Starbound at this moment, I don't have any more ideas for this. Please, if you have any ideas, post them below and I will add them if it seems realist enough to be added into the game. ________________________________________________________________________ Furniture and Appliances Actual house Furniture - Coach, recliner, end table, ect. Things that would be in your space station Living room Laboratory Furniture/Equipment - I saw a picture of a lab in the space station that Tiy released, and I see a desk, lab stations, chemical rack, chalk board, lab stations, and these MASSIVE chemical tanks, which I am guessing is either the holding tank for aliens that they can study, or fuel tanks for the ship Computers - Starbound Computer Interface?! Now tell me you don't think that is awesome. Maybe they could be like signs, and have text that would read off that ACTUALLY shows the words, or maybe you can have it include a mini game like Zork (Zork is one of the millions of CMD games where you type in your actions, and pre-made reactions to the game come up in text. If you do not know what I am talking about, go Here.) They could also be used to send In game messeges to players on the server, or maybe if Starbound has a log-in feature, or supported multiplayer (which i know we all would love) it could send it to your profile. Or they could just be a feature that keeps track of your log book (seen Here) and show pictures, and have extensive information on that mob. Crafted by 1 glass (depending on size), wires or whatever is used for electronics in Starbound, and a power source that is used for most things in Starbound. Air Ducts - Seen on the same Lab screen shot on the teasers, I wonder if these will be build-able features for Starbound, or just something that is nice to look at for the Space station. Same or similar Terraria furniture. but improved - Some furnature that I want to see make a comeback, is obviously the basic table in Terraria would be OKAY, but with the space theme, a new table would need to be in order. Along with most of the other things, like Toilet, tub, ect. I also want more banner like things to be added. The Terraria ones were awesome, but they were way to small and not large enough to put on epic hallways, bridges, ect. More Ladders, more doors, ect. - I think ladders, instead of platforms, should actually be put in, because if you look at "ladders" In Terraria, they are actually MASSIVE compared to your charecter. Also, the only doors in Terraria were the wodden doors. Maybe since It is spaced themed, put metal doors that are automatic, that go up, and down, but need a space or two above it to retract into. Maybe there could be portcullis's that open outwards for Massive castles, or base walls. Placeable Fauna - In Terraria, the only placeable plants were pots, and maybe coral. They should add a ficus, maybe a large alien plant, and even have pots, and large pots grow thier own plants that match the planet's ecosystem, via what grows the the ground, and what semi-large plants grow on there. ________________________________________________________________________ Building Features Npc moving/Relocation - I am sure most of you remember this from Terraria, but if you are new to this, and didnt play Terraria, this is what it is. When NPCs moved in, they would be impossible to move them and they could move into your bedroom, and not move out. It was a bit annoying, and that is why Redigit added a new NPC GUI (Game User Interface) that would allow you to choose where they live. Space Station Customization - I hope the space station will have a different type of building mode/customization mode, because the Space stations seem to not have a been block-oriented, so there should be a different way of doing it, maybe just a build mode to move around furniture, add platforms, add rooms, and things like that. Easy ways to destroy, or copy, buildings. - I also have had problems with buildings I do not want any more. Maybe a construction bot can be programed with certain points, then will go out to destroy, or annalyze areas, then can copy it back somewhere else. It should do it in layers, first the bottom blocks, then the next layer, and then the next. I have seen this done in Terraria, so I know it is possible, just will be a bit buggy, and should have a block limit to a certain point to ensure that Starbound will not crash.
Let me get started. I like the idea of the steel plating. However, the second suggestion in that category is more of a "meh". I don't really see the use. I love the furniture and appliances ideas, but the computer probably won't be that functional. Other than that, air ducts have to be big enough to crawl in. And the building features are good as well.
Thanks, but I meant the Native bricks as a way to make sure your castle/base makes any sense with the surronding environment. I mean, what If i lived on an Ice world with Hellstone bricks? Or lived in a swamp with Ice Bricks? It would look nice to have blocks that blend, and for a way to make more matching buildings. As for the Air ducts, that would be fun Thank you! I have also added more to it, and I really hope to get some ideas, and things like that so I can post more
If there was to be a special block for every planet, and there are planets for every person to own PLUS others, wouldn't that result in devs having to create a special block for every single person plus some? I think each biome should have its own blocks and what makes a planet unique is where the biomes are located and how much there is of each biome. That would make each planet special enough for me.
I like a lot of these ideas, the NPC stuff is a must, Terraria NPCs were just horrible. as for buildings they did mention some kind of deployable building stuff, but im a bit hazy on that.
Wow, I haven't been here on these forums for a long time. Been some attention while I was gone. Thank you all for the positive comments
Holy crap, so much reading... I did read a lot of it but the part about the computers stood out because then instead of having a house with your room with a bed, and then rooms for everyone you really don't care about. You can have a place where you just go to to the computer for no reason. Another thing that was interesting was the real furniture, which is really annoying when you don't have furniture because it makes your house look lame, then you have to ghettotize your house and make it huge to have a little chair made of walls. The last thing is the plant idea, where you can have some sort of color in your house instead of just wood or stone. An added idea to this would be similar to the armor statues in Terraria. You could have different decorative statues (guns, swords, etc like in Terraria) but make them rarer. Maybe even having a trophy stand of achievements that you may get.
One of the first images show metalic blocks: http://playstarbound.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/screen1.png
Dude hold off on the Terraria comparison. Yes i loved it and yes it being made by some of the same people, but this isn't Terraria. I do agree with this but there was too much "like terraria" stuff going on, and many of these items will most likely be in the game anyways, chairs and tables aren't unique to that game And as for computers, I believe Tiy or one of the devs said that they were mostly decorations, but they would be slightly animated. I really see no point of making a tiny text game inside of an already huge game.
Assuming you were talking about my reference, people reference this game to Terraria mainly because one of developers are developing this one, the game has the same genre and it still is a 2D game.
There are also many 2d games. And I'm not saying they are bad ideas, I'm just sick of hearing the two games compared, and I know that's why the comparison is being mad, but if I was a developer, yes I'd be happy and proud of a game I made in the past. There is such a thing as too much comparison though. But no not you, only the original post
Would you rather us compare it to something else? Another reason, I forgot to mention, is that most people that know of Starbound have played Terraria or have friends that have.
This is well detailed and includes many things I would like to see in the game. Well done! (I also love to build awesome houses, so this would be perfect.)
