Starbound becoming too child friendly?

No hunger, temperature, or stat/skill juggling = a monotonous game. Any choice which would impact the player is non-existent.

Mine or hunt for treasure, dump items in chests, repeat. No reason to do anything else. I now find it less engaging after all the survival elements were removed. Exploration and survival should be 1:1.

I'll wait for "hardcore" mode thank you.

I was fooling around with the /spawnitem commands when I found several placeable items: empty vodka bottle, empty liquor bottle, empty whisky bottle, empty wine bottle, and empty gin bottle. When hit, they drop pixels, but other than that they're cool. I've covered nearly every surface in my ship with these.:lolwut:

I'm gonna say a summarized version of what I've been thinking while reading this thread then be on my merry way:
I don't think forced adult themes in a game that has never really shown much in the way of being an "adult" game is remotely necessary. I mean I'd honestly love my Novakid to be a troubled bounty hunter, drinking away the pain of the lives he's taken in the name of financial gain but as of now that isn't possible. I don't think it's a problem, either. There's not really been any content removed that has forsaken some of the darker tones out there. (Flesh biomes, bone biomes, Floran dungeons)
I get the feeling that alcohol was removed to later be placed in Novakid dungeons/settlements as decorations and drops from a saloon of some sort. But that's just my personal theory.
I'm more concerned with the removal of Tentacle biomes but I'd assume those will be reinstated when we get actual lore rather than bare bones content. I'm hoping that it'll be similar to corruption, in that it spreads across planets in star systems before the planet explodes a la Earth. That'd be cool as hell, actually. And naturally there'd be a way to combat it so that bases aren't lost and such.

    ANYWAY I'M OFF TOPIC
Forcing adult themes in a game that has always straddled the line between mature and silly just doesn't seem like the way to go. I don't think it'd fit the game's style well either.

The tentacle biome is now the ultimate end game biome.
In the next sector all the planets will be on hard mode difficulty. After beating that - you reach tentacle biome.

Also the thread isn't just about the adult theme aspect - but the general trend of becoming less demanding on the player over all also.
From starbounds inception there always has been 2 factions the casuals and the more ardent hardcore supporters. They never got along

I think the lack of a Hunger system is rather silly considering they finally expanded on food, but IIRC they said they'll reinstate it eventually.
But I'm glad that Temperature isn't a thing anymore. It was ridiculous having to babysit it at times. At first it was cool and really immersive until you realize that carrying a campfire is essential and have to deal with the screen freezing over constantly hinders effective mining.
Now I do believe that the star systems shouldn't be so.. focused, I guess. Thematic is a better word. I think there should be the possibility of all biomes in all star types, similar to Unstable stars. I realize that the star systems are based on actual stars and how hot/cold they burn but still, if I want a tier 3 forest planet then I should be able to have it. Maybe make the other non-star-themed biomes more rare in that specific star type, but they're still there if you look hard enough. It's not like fueling a ship is as much of a hassle as it was before.

I just want more booze. My old character was a serious alcoholic.

I'm confused as all hell as to how exactly pixels would make their way into empty booze bottles.....nobody I ever heard of puts money into the liquor bottles they empty....as a matter of fact from what I've seen the kind of people who drink their problems away are usually too strapped for money to waste any and will use any dollar they can get their hands on towards buying more booze.

Dangerous too.....I can just imagine other broke drunks breaking the empty bottles around for the money inside to buy more booze.....I mean, drunk people and glass shards everywhere probably makes for a very busy nearby hospital.

That almost sounds like a good idea for a mod, to add broken objects of refreshment...>< lol

Well would be interesting to really add to the aroma on ingame habits. :)

Have they gotten along in ANY game? ;)

I have my opinions on what direction the game in the latest update feels like, but I've been self imposing certain "difficulties" on myself that for the moment before I make any final judgements.

I thought the flasks were removed as well.. til I randomly got one in a chest last night. Maybe their chances are just turned way down.

You make some nice points, but... sources?

Also, I'd like to point out to anoyone who hasn't noticed... the moontants used to be human...
...A common drop of theirs is alien meat...
...It may not be adult content, but it's pretty disturbing...

Sources...........grow up. It really does take a kid to ask for "mature" content.....or some real loser adults who have never grown up....but the first are far more common than the latter. Adults don't care about meaningless game objects to the point they go crying on the forums about them.....these things do absolutely nothing in the game.....there is literally no difference between a "liquor bottle" and a breakable capsule, there is no special gameplay mechanic or anything attached to any of it......and only kids want to pretend they're grown up in a game.....*hint* because only kids are in a hurry to grow up and be "cool" and fantasize about drinking alcohol.....because it's a symbol of freedom from parent rules and of rebellion and of "doing what they want" so they think this is what being an adult is all about.....little do they know they are just being idiots.

Your quite full of yourself arent you? Theres plenty of adults that have a demand for adult content. Just becuse you belive otherwise dosent make you right., especially when you have no data to support your claim.

If anything your conviction that arent based on anything other then beliefs are whats comes of as immature here.

Il apologize in advance incase this post came of as rude, your post just got to me.

The concept of "different strokes for different folks" is very hard to grasp, it seems. It takes a mature, educated mind to do that.
Coming here to voice opinions without insulting each other is the biggest proof that you are an "adult". Let's remain civil here, shall we?

Typical teen argument.....actually that reply fits exactly what a kid would say. It's also not conviction I speak with.....it's knowledge.[DOUBLEPOST=1423499161][/DOUBLEPOST]
No insult......simply facts. If you're an adult whining about meaningless, function-less objects in a game because the game doesn't make you feel like an adult you need to seriously rethink your life and exactly why you are looking for a game to make you feel like an adult if you are one. Most of the complaints about whisky bottles here are about guaranteed to be puberty hormones talking but I wouldn't doubt there's an adult or two in there as well. Maybe some people in their 20s still living under parent rules and parents generally have trouble realizing that their babies have grown.

I don't know. It takes godlike omniscience to paint a broad stroke over people of different backgrounds and regions based solely on "experience". That's bound to rustle more than a few jimmies, and you can't really complain about them taking umbrage at you calling them whinny children.

We are capable of stating out opinions without resorting to name calling, right?
It would be enough to say that alcoholic beverages in game adds nothing to it, or that it adds immersion or roleplay value. The rest was kind of uncalled for.
All I'm asking here is for opinions to be made without making assumptions about each other. Be if perceived "fact" or not.

Immersion?? They might as well call it toddler milk for all the immersive difference it does.....which is precisely none when you take into account the effects of real alcohol on people vs effects in game.
Replay value? I don't see how a meaningless object would make a new playthrough in any way different or more desirable........it still sits there and looks exactly the same as the first time around actually.

As I said.....if you're an adult looking for confirmation of your adult status from a pixelated, carttonish, game's meaningless objects there are serious issues you need to work through......and you're probably far from mature regardless of your age.
