    Heya guys.

I've been following and reading this forum for a while now, and something bugs me immensely. Every day I see posts of players lambasting certain aspects of the game. Surely, constructive criticism is required and no doubt appreciated. But there seems to be a bit of a negative vibe! Maybe it's just my imagination of course. But regardless!

It's time for a different kind of topic. Share what you love about Starbound. Why you've put tens, if not hundreds of hours into playing the game! I'll start.

One of the things that attracts me the most to Starbound is the atmosphere. Even without lots of plot or lore, Starbound's premise really hooks me. The human background, for example. It's not really expanded upon much but the Earth has been destroyed and the player character is driven from his home, along with the rest of his or her race, forced into a diaspora across the galaxy. Just that little factoid enhances the sense of loneliness amongst the stars, as well as freedom. There's no where to go back to, nothing that ties you down. It's you, your ship, and the matter manipulator and you can go anywhere that you want. I love that the universe is filled with all sorts of logs and journals you can find, further illustrating the background and story of these worlds. It's something that Minecraft or Terraria lack, lore, and Starbound's lore so far is brilliant, even though it is yet so sparse.

I also simply adore the music. It's wonderful. I've not enjoyed a soundtrack this much for a long time.

So how about you guys? Why are you bound to the stars?

Sort of the same thing. But anyways a mod can decide if this threads gets the axe.

Just kidding. This thread can live. I go by the rule of thumb that if there are no similar threads within 5 pages of the front page I'll accept a new one rather than necroing an old one.

    Carry on.

What I love about starbound... hmm... that's a toughy... Just kidding.

I really like the versatility and variety in the way you can play the game most. The fact that it is a space odyssey makes it different to some degree from the rest of similar games within the same genre. It has a different take on things. I am a builder still even in the others, but this one I can build in a universe effectively creating my own look to the places & planets if I wanted. the more variety in aesthetics the better and more versatile the look will be able to create.

That and the many outfits you can wear. I love collecting things, but too bad you can't display them as of yet; if/when they decide to put something like that in. not a gripe just a love for the simple variety that will apparently grow in many areas.

I like the choices in species each having their distinct look & background. Each flavor has even more flavor, so to spice things up within the game I don't need a campfire. lol

Along the same lines as above I like the randomness of the places & planets that they are on; while they are continuing to expand this it seems, will be welcome always. Exploration and seeing the sites is something I like doing as well, but usually after I build, even if it is a small thing on each planet. Taking in the sights while modifying them to my tastes to a degree, well within what I have in mind.

Sure there is always room for improvement, and that is always a good not to go on, as this lovely game continues to flesh out. If it gets too big, then I guess I'll have to feast some of it off and file some missing persons reports to the nearest species regulations center. That is if I can understand the paperwork that is handed to me. >< lol

Regardless I am quite enjoying the many wonders which is making Starbound what it is to be. Slow progress, but eventually I know it will be something I will enjoy. What do you expect when I am easily entertained by the simplest of things, no matter how complex the inner workings are. :D

The rich beautiful environments, the thousands of trees, the myriads of monsters of every kind, the tongue and cheek humor in the lore and NPC dialogue and observation text, the multiple tier progression system, the clever design of bosses, the wonderful design of NPC villages and dungeons, the designs of the races themselves, and the excellent use of procedural generation to build an infinite universe explorable universe I can explore build and live in are just a few several of the things I love about Starbound.

The sheer potential I can see for this game at current makes me anticipate what the full version will be like all the more: when the behaviors of monsters is as wide spread as their appearances, when the tiers, boss fights, and main quest line is finished, when side quests are implemented, mechanics balanced, and other things done that I can't think of right now or don't know about yet. I have high hopes, and realistically they won't all be met, probably even can't. But I'm certain I'll be satisfied all the same.

I just like how this game feels, it's hard to explain.

It's a feeling that comes from all its neat little things combined: the art style, the instruments, the lore, and a lot of other things.

EDIT: People complain about the game because they love it, they want it to be even better, trust me if people didn't care they wouldn't bother to post at all : p

I like space exploration that involves survival.
I really like the Asian items that Hylotl have.
I like the fact that progression starts from the most basic tech, and makes you earn/re-trace the advancements made on Earth.
I like that ships are upgradeable and customizable.
I like that there is a game mode that does not drop items on death.
I like that there is a solo player mode.
I like that the races are primarily a cosmetic choice.
I like many things that do not all come to mind.

Off-topic, but I disagree, as that is not entirely true. I fear too many people complain because they are selfish and only care about getting what they want - regardless of their current level of satisfaction. There is a huge difference between constructive discussion (that aims to understand how issues affect everyone) and just emphasizing personal preferences/expectations.

There are unfortunately quite a few that complain for this reason as well, so I agree.

Agreed. I am having a lot of fun exploring and finding stuff, even with the wipe so near. The devs can only make it better, and it is a nice game as it is so far. :)
