Edge of Space looks like it'll have about as much content as Terraria, maybe a little more. To me, that just means I'll burn through it quickly.

I don't know what your idea of 'quickly' is, but I, aswell as anybody else I've talked to about it, got more gameplay out of Terraria than any other game, except maybe Minecraft. I've seen people with hundreds of hours of play time on Terraria and from what I've seen of Edge of Space, it'll have just as much if not more content than Terraria. Personally I think there is something about the art style that puts me off slightly, but I'm more than willing to put that behind me to enjoy what is shaping up to look like a very fun game. And in response to whoever was saying that Handyman basically presented Terraria's feature list. Have a look at some of the live streams, they have discussed features there which are certainly not featured in Terraria.

    Edit: More punctuation! >.<

yeah...quickly...(looks at the 200+ hours spent in Terraria) oh...
haha. I'm with Deebee though, I don't like the aesthetic choices that EOS has made. No biggie, there are plenty of games out there.

Why is this even here... until i stumbled onto this post i didnt even know of EoS... so what is the point of this thread. its just another compare this game to that game or dont compare this game to that game thread(which amounts to the same thing on any forum) WHO CARES if its a clone or rip-off, until now i dont think anyone had a clue or inclination to talk about this game. If it where up to me i would just put an end to these threads way ahead of time and delete them before they become ridiculous diatribes about human nature and comparisons and this game is better then that game. I think the mods need to start killing these threads before they start, im kinda sick of them, regardless of their intent they turn into crap.

  5. Actually, OP says as the title claims; building a genre:
That said, it's not the thread that makes you sick. It's the replies.

the problem here suika, is that the OPs premise only work in a perfect world. which this isint. we ARE human. we ARE stupid. we WILL childishly fight over stupid stuff.
and these threads just bring the worst in us out of loyalty/trolling/whatever for what we like most

  7. Hence the second part of my post. As flawed as it may be, the intent is still there.

If you ignore the trolls and off-topic posts bashing EOS, the topic was a good discussion about how a new genre is being born. Sandbox sidescrollers. Before Terraria this genre didn't exist. There were sidescroller fighting games, Metroid, Megaman, etc. but ReLogic joined the sandbox elements with the sidescroller/platformer design and, surprisingly, it worked incredibly well. Now there are at least three games, (probably more) that are following in this vein. (Starbound, Edge of Space, Crea) And we can probably expect some more. (something similar to this happened with puzzle platformers, Braid showed developers that it could be done, and so we got all sorts of puzzle platformer games like Vessel and Rochard)

  9. Yea, that's what I'm saying :c But apparently, it's kinda gotten derailed and turned into a EoS bashing thread or something

I actually came to find out about Starbound through Edge of Space's Steam Greenlight page. I immediately looked Starbound up after upvoting it, now I'm not following the Edge of Space updates at all .

what do you mean "fix that" ?

Apparently it seems like the purpose is similar to Starbound, but nobody owns the right to own a purpose of a game.
By fix that I am unsure what he means, good question Rho dude.

Ya know I prob shouldn't even respond to this, but I thought I would just clarify a couple things

The OP wanted to compare Starbound, Terraria, and EOS as they are all 2d sandbox games, and (from what I took from it at least) from a brief summery of each wanted to talk about how it was good not bad that all these games were coming out, and hopefully there would be more of them. I hope I am not too off on this, but as it is based on what Starbound is I can easily see how this could be included in such a discussion. I am sorry the general discussion does not fit to your "standards" but there are quite a bit of people who enjoy discussing the several aspects of these games, and I am glad such a thread is open for people to have a place to discuss such things.

Why does every time someone say they don't agree with something or dislike something it becomes "Bashing"? Let me point to the main prob with the OP if they did not want to discuss the differences between the games or at least get reasons on why some people dislike one or the other..

This is just one example, but if you say people are tearing down these games, then isn't it obvious that the people who honestly don't like the game, and have a decent reason not to, are going to at least say wait... I am not tearing down the game for no reason, and I am not going to hold up this game like it is awesome when I think it is a steaming pile. Is it so off topic to say hey your wrong, this isn't why I am saying what I am about this game, and to state why they have come to such a bad opinion of it?

But I am not going to say I like EOS, and you may count me as a troll, or it may disgust you, but it just isn't right when some game that some random person said is good, and that spread to another, then another. Now it is taboo to say anything other then how great it is going to be. Its called Hype, and usually it is really over-rated, but people still fall for it every time.. Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying everyone should "Hate" this game.. I don't even hate it, but I am saying let people make up their own minds, and provide things you like about the game other then trying to tear down the people who are just giving their opinion of what they think of it. Also maybe try to remember if someone says they don't like something that they are talking about their personal belief on that topic, and not everyone is going to agree with you, or even them.

I agree that the whole "Rip-Off" thing is not right, and I do give examples about how other games that follow a certain genres, but there are problems with it (EOS), that need to be faced before it becomes a good game, and that is why I disagree with it being a good game. I won't stop, "bashing" or "tearing it down" because I am sure, especially from the responses here, that it is something to discuss when we are talking about EOS, and isn't that what we are here for.. to discuss? I mean without discussion what is a forum?

Edit: I should note if I thought such things, about Starbound, or if Terraria was still an active game, I would also say what I thought about either of them. But so far I have been quite pleased about what I have seen about Starbound, and Terraria is pretty much dead... so here we are.
