I think would be nice to be able to choose in the space to make a starbase, i mean, from nothing build a place that gain a place in the starmap in your starship, and with some mechanism like, necessity of vents with wires conections in a coputer to have air, space door to lock the envirement, would behave as a asteroid biome.
There are mods for what you want (station, and air production), but the Dev's decided against turning your ship into a station.
