STAR, not Earth, Bound

Aren't side quests already planned? Once they come out, I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions to expand it.

 

Would be kind of nice if there was a variety of game play methods in Starbound. Maybe we're trying to cross a bridge before we get there, but what if doing the mining thing was optional? Maybe you could acquire what you need through trade or other means?

 

Beta is about feedback. What works, what doesn't work, what players want. If the Dwarf Fortress community sat with their fingers up their bums waiting for full release, we'd have nothing to talk about for almost a decade now.

Well, yes. I suppose that is possible. I can also beat Borderlands with the starting pistol or kill an overhealed Heavy with the Wrap Assassin. Just because I can doesn't mean its a good idea or anything but a tediously slow process.

I still don't think clearcutting forests is an elegant solution to my problem. Especially without the ability to replant them- it means my home planet will run dry of useable resources at some point and I'll have to move or rely on imports.

 

I got all of my tools from chests faster than mining out an entire planet.

 

But at least you have options. If you don't want to destroy your homeworld, find another forest planet, slam the necessary amount of coal into your ship to get you there and tear that planet apart. Personally, I like to leave stumps behind, just so everyone would know I logged the place and cared not for the for the little birdy homes. Come to think of it, it's no wonder they shoot flames at me when I pass by.

 

Thus forcing you to explore. I would like the option to destroy my starting world once I have fully looted it to let the rest of the universe know to fear me.

 

Yes! I knew that DeathStar hologram I found was no coincidence. We should definitely have that power at some point.

 

I think it would be more accurate to say AAA companies do it while testers are under NDA. That NDA doesn't get lifted until there's a release candidate build, at which point "beta" is more or less synonymous with "marketing strategy".

 

I still don't see your point, you whole post assumes those are not planned features.

 

That's just not true. Just check how gta online turned out to be. it wasn't ready , basicly never been publicly tested , and it was a complete mess for a month before they actually succeeded in fixing some of the major bugs and problems. Alot of AAA companies now release their product claiming that it's finished while in reality , they use all the players for their final beta phase while still making them pay full price for their game. At least chucklefish warns you before you buy the product , and let's be honest here , 15$ is nothing compared to the cost of those AAA games.

 

You're a lone wanderer in space. What do you have to trade per'se ? I'd love a functioning trade system. However unless you actually have something of value on your person, there really is no discussion here, you'll end up back in those mines.
