This is probably one of the coolest features I've seen but so simple

"I think we may need to tone it down a bit"

Don't tone it down too much! It looks awesome, it really should depend on the proximity
not sure about how they could change the background image to fit the foreground

    thoughts on this feature?

  2. Maybe it should be a little darker and less reddish than it is now ? Like ... during a sunset or something ?
It looks cool and the idea is awesome but it's a little bit too red for me personally.

The lighting looks good and if a planet is that close to the star then I think it looks appropriate. It would probably bother me though if the environment didn't reflect the inhospitable nature of planets that are very close to stars. Maybe be dead on the surface with a chance at derelict artifacts and have a more vibrant underworld? Just a thought.

It kinda sucks that it takes away msot from color palette... I think lighting effects should be more subtle, like, 50% of what we see her, and become as noticeable as in the picture only during sunset/sunrise!

I guess it depends on the distance..
AND IF THERE ARE TWO OR MORE STARS, it should slowly change color, depending the time of day it is ;D

    That would be so awesomesauce...

    Blue... red... blue... red...

Come to think of it, why are there no GREEN stars present?

I really don't think a red star would make a planet red, kind of like our yellow star doesn't make our planet yellow, nor would a blue star make a planet blue.

I'm not really sure on this tbh. I'm sure a google search could tell you but I know that the stars are those colors due to how hot they burn (and sometimes how old) so I think that they may give of those actual colors but VERY subtly. Maybe not even visibly.

I don't think the background fits at the time being.

My Google searches aren't being very helpful. But I think that if any color is emitted out from a star, it would be very subtle. Not so stark that a planet would be completely red like in the picture.

We actually have a white star, so we wouldn't notice this on Earth. It's only depicted as yellow because the way it looks to us through our atmosphere (mostly while setting and rising). And I guess that's the real kicker. This effect would technically be different from planet to planet based on their atmosphere. I'm not sure if a red star would cast red light on the planet, but I'll be researching during my lunch today. I've an interest in astronomy so...

The light emitted should have an effect on the colors perceived on the planet below. Atmosphere certainly has an effect on it, but you can't split color shifted light into a rainbow the same way you can a white light. I would expect there to be more than just red coming from the star so others should exist, but a subtle red shift would seem called for.

Regardless of the scientific accuracy, though, it shouldn't be as deep a red as that. It looks a little ugly and drains the color palette a bit too much. Uhg, imagine an ice planet near a red sun? T'would look as if the hills bleed cherry slurpee.

I agree that we shouldn't look too hard at the science and that it needs to be dialed back. I think the effect should be highly noticeable during sunrise and sunset but almost imperceptible for most of the 'day.' Most of this is being discussed on the main forum, so I'll leave it at that.

Random scientific bit: I did find out that Gliese 581 c, a star in the habitable zone around a red dwarf, is hypothesized to have a red sky and that the plants would actually grow black due to the spectrum of light they'd have to use for photosynthesis.

I agree, it should be a lot less saturated, and the background should also have the same sort of effect applied to keep it all aesthetically pleasing.

I personally think the lighting is too saturating. It kinda makes everything monochrome and could make identify certain items and tiles frustrating or confusing at times. I think toning it down a bit, if not a lot would be a good decision. :)
