Will Starbound have standalone dedicated servers EXEs? For example, Minecraft has the server.exe's available on its website. The game itself/ an account isn't needed to host the game. The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to host the game on a machine separate from the one I'm actually playing the game on.
I would be very surprised if there was no standalone server software. And if there isn't, you can bet some modder will make one.
Hmmm...I could never get the standalones for Minecraft to work. Either due to me being stupid, or the fact its SO hard to make the ability to make a server easy. I wouldn't mind it. Sure the Minecraft ones were...sub-par, but its still good to know they are there...
Brutor, you need to have set up a static ip address, then port forwarded port 25565 on tcp and idp through your router's setup page. After that you leave the server config IP blank and give people your external IP address, which can be found via a google search. The guide for port forwarding can be found on http://portforward.com/ Alternatively, you can download the program portforward static ip setup and part of the work will be done for you. But yes, I do agree that Minecraft'ssoftare was... lacking.
I'd expect that Starbound would contain some external EXE dedicated server. Because even if I can't play does not mean my friends can't, either. And port-forwarding is easy after you do it a few times. For me, port-forwarding is pretty much automatic since I can speed through the menus without much thought.
