Spreading Grass

I've recently been looking for a world to settle down in, and found that one's almost identical to earth. I've done some terraforming so I have a nice view of some mountains in the background, but after I started building I noticed that grass doesn't seem to spread over to dirt. I've waited nearly an hour and the grass just isn't spreading, and the dirt by itself is quite hideous. My suggestion is just that grass spreads. Unless of course it already does and I just haven't noticed, in which case I'd love it if somebody told me.

/Support. I was slightly miffed to find that out myself, but I guess I'm not as OCD. I will say though that a player should be able to pretty up the planet as much as they can destroy it, there should be a balance. A chance for flowers might be neat as well.

... Also, mind giving us the coordinates for your planet in your post there?

Here you go. I found it on a website filled with coords, thought I'd build a house here. The only flaw I found was that there weren't many trees, but that was fine since I'd been collecting saplings that I thought looked like they would fit in on earth.

    Hello!

I'd like to support the idea of regrowing/spreading grass and other plants.
Also respawning animals/NPCs would be nice.
(Sorry if this is already an existing feature, I've never experienced that so far, so I don't know.)

The planets just look... sad once you start building, digging, and then the grass's just gone forever and the animals won't come back once you farmed enough flesh for meals.
Making them respawnable/regrowable would be awesome! Not just because some of the plants provide plant fibres/the animals meat and leather/NPCs item drops, but to make the environment more realistic.
Personally I don't like the idea of building an on-planet-base where just all the "life" is gone.
I don't know, but I start to grow "lonely" once all the NPCs/environment details are gone which prevented me from actually setting up an onplanet base yet.

I found once a large and beautiful avian city and while I was resting at a house there, 3 birds at once came and killed all the Avian NPCs in the first part of the city. I also killed some of the Avians by accident as I tried to help fighting the birds :(
This... was just sad. And so I dropped the idea of buildng my base near the city and never found another place where I wanted to build a base again. (Well, okay, maybe that's just me. I'm sure not everyone is as picky as me or would drop an idea just because of such "minor things". My own "fault" here, no question! I really liked the idea of quests and bosses in the game but building is, like in Terraria, just my favourite thing to do ingame!)
Okay, there's the possibility to use NPC Spawners, but they're quite expensive and seem to require a certain state of game/character progress.
(Using mods with unlimited resources/spawners is a good option here, but not everyone wants to use Mods and I still don't know if all the mods work in multiplayer which is important to me.)

Regarding drops of NPCs/animals: To prevent pointless overfarming, why not decrease/limit drops from NPCs you already killed on that place?
But on the other hand: well, if somebody wants to farm stuff, they're gonna do it anyway on other planets... or start using mods with unlimited item creation. So I don't see an actual point to prevent this behavior. If someone really wants to do that, they'll find a way to do so.

Last but not least: pleeease let us finally have our own farm with chicken and cows (or maybe other animals too!) whith the possibility to get milk, eggs and other stuff from them. (I know the chicken/egg-feature is already planned. Please don't drop this idea and make it easy to obtain the required stuff to keep them Q_Q BTW: Some of my favourite items ingame... are the hay-items!). Also, spawning baby animals would be awesome, too! A little Pond with fishes, ducks n stuff would be also a nice addition. What about the idea of fishing in general?
And what about falling leaves/seasons? Okay, this can be quite dangerous to the games performance I'm afraid, so I know this might be difficult to implement and making it enjoyable for everyone. (I have a rather old PC so the game lags quite a lot here, so opting in/out this feature or change the graphics quality would be nice.)

Well, just my thoughts on that topic. Sorry for the wall of text.

I agree there should be a way to sow your own grass seeds etc, but ideally some scripting in fauna that makes it spread. plants, trees and flowers should grow on their own accord, sure if the player wants to get involved and affect it's progress or what's change the natural order of things on a planet then that's all good fun. But you should be able to leave a planet then come back to find the wildlife has grown and spread, not remained as it was left.

It would be interesting to add some science to this, E.G you plant grass seeds on your barren planet and it grows and grows until it hits a barrier, then if you was to place a grazing animal it would consume the growing grass so there would become bald spots.... however if you increase the amount of grazing animals the food becomes harder to find and the animals become hungry / die off unless you are re-sowing seeds or providing alternative food supplies or even culling / eating the animals thus creating a more farm type management / ecosystem management style of game play.

I like the idea of spreading grass :) Yup, when we build, or flatten the terrain or do anything that includes moving soil, the effect after, bald terrain without any grass is a sad view. I liked the idea of seeds in Terraria, maybe something similar to this could be implemented in Starboud... maybe we could also be able to plant different species (colours) of grass on one planet (like the trees). This would really make some possibilities of customization. Well, I also think that the grass could grow taller, or maybe some species of taller grass could be included in Starbound. Anyway, first things first - the spreading of grass is more important now than different species etc ;)
