Species Plotlines (Not to be Confused with Personal Story)

Okay, so this is probably a big stretch that would require a lot of man (and woman) hours, but I think it could really be a fun way to flesh out the story of the galaxy. Now I don't know what Chucklefish has planned for the personal stories of whichever race you choose, so this may or may not intersect. Anyways, what I'd like to see are questlines that further the ambitions of each species as a whole. I know the Floran character wants to sssstab things, but what are the Florans as a species trying to achieve? Well, you could find out and then help them out with that in a series of missions. I enjoy collecting lore and learning about the histories of the races, but with the addition of species questlines you could also help them make history.

I suggested a reputation system earlier today that I believe would tie in nicely. I mean a species isn't just going to take any old stranger and toss them into their galactic schemes, right? You'd have to butter them up first, get them to trust you. Do odd jobs and clear beasties off their planet until they think you're the adventurer for the job.

It's a big, broad, crazy idea, but maybe Chucklefish is just crazy enough to like it. As always, feel free to comment with your ideas and/or improvements.

Florans do enjoy hunts, I think a good side quest would be to find/hunt a (Sub-Boss) creature (The ones procedurally generated and placed on random planets and give off a slightly red aura) on/off planet. Just bring back a nice trophy tribute, to satisfy the Florans need to display strength.

Playing on the cultural bias of Florans as many find the other races weak,
just as the Apexs find everyone else to be inferior mentally.

Just my 2-cents on the topic.

I like that idea! Florans could track down and hunt infamous creatures/outlaws for the glory of their race, while the Apex might focus on missions that push the boundaries of known science/technology. Good thinkin.

Judging from the lore: Stabbing things. Read the codex entries about "the Great Florian Novel".

We don't know what quest stuff is currently planned, but a simple way to implement a little of this idea would be to have Florian settlements request a certain monster head, Apex ones bits of tech, Avian ones certain temple artifacts and so on. Some of those quests would make the dungeon areas more worthwhile too. I was a little disappointed at finding a mysteriously high-tech Glitch base where it turned out nothing interesting was going on; it was just a dungeon area, and not even a hard one. I'd have these requested quest items mostly be unique versions though, so that if someone requests a "Cool Server" I can't always win that instantly by digging one out of storage.

As a Hylotl you're supposed to be a missionary, and there's a reference to a secret directive. What kind of quest could you do for that? Delivering documents or relief supplies to dangerous places and potentially hostile settlements? For the Apex I'd be interested in helping out their resistance movement; it's the only thing that'd make me not automatically consider all Apex hostile.

Right, the species quests should reflect their overall beliefs and mannerisms. Florans hunt, Apex innovate, Hylotl provide aid, Avians collect artifacts, Humans... search for their scattered people? Information on the giant space octopus? Haha, not sure. And I don't know enough about the Glitch to speak on their behalf. Having a mission generate a unique monster or dungeon loot/prop and then visiting a planet to collect it would be a reasonable way to implement this idea.

I know what you mean about the boring dungeons. I posted a few other suggestions elsewhere that would help make them more interesting. Reputations gains, crafting plans that require specific dungeon props for ship upgrades, things like that. Planets could use a deeper sense of identity as well.

I know there are "outcasts" killing Glitches in Glitch villages, via ingame book lore. "I don't know the specifics yet as I havent gotten all the lore to the specific book, only a few parts." The book itself is an awesome Blade Runner reference"
