Spawners aren't that great right now, and its the AI's fault.

Yeah, what needs change is the AI, pretty much.

That's a sizeable town, by the game's standards.

What I'm curious about is, why are we spawning people? Why are we not repopulating and breeding, or recruiting people we find along the way and outfitting them certain jobs?

Making people out of steel and money seems like an incredibly lazy take on something that could be much more immersive and concomplex.

This is a 2d game. With low end graphics and physics. So EVERYTHING should be focused on picture perfect game mechanics that are complex, immersive, and interesting. They didn't raise 1 mil on kickstarter just to make a 2d "print furniture and buy uneditable humans!"

A more in depth NPC system would be cool, and I'm sure we will see much more from it from this point into the future. That and I'm sure modders are already going to have a field day with NPCs. Being able to recruit them and assign jobs, say after helping them with something would be a lot of fun.

Just so you know though, simpler graphics and 2D don't always mean coding will be easier. Things still take time and effort.

I just glare at my tool merchant enough when he tries to go outside that he immediately turns around and runs back in. He leaves the door open a lot though. Guess I need to start the beatings again... sigh. They hare to have brains for Thought Reassignment. Lucky for me my base location precludes all but the most lucky mobs even getting near it, since I left a lot of natural features that are tricky for mobs too navigate.
I was serious about the glaring thing btw. Don't ask me why it works, because I have no clue...

I'm trying to build a village early on in game. After i load up on my first quest of the day i then work on expanding my village and making it look as natural and cohesive as possible for any race within it. After that i go planet hopping for more materials. But i still struggle greatly with getting materials. Personally i do want a better AI and i would agree on having random village spawners as a cheaper alternative to race specific spawners. I second the notion that spawners should respawn a deceased villager or guard after a day or two; or even a week for those cheaper (than they are now) spawners. Also if there was an item or mod designed to deter or kill flying mobs would be enjoyed.

My village is designed to grow with my exploration and evenly accommodate the village as if it was played with a full set of players. It's my home and what i work on. I know it will be wiped at some point but i plan to find the faults in the program so i can make a home worth coming back to and showing off once the game is at full release. (just my play style)
