spaceship battels in space

    well, I mean if this game already has a space ship, why not space ship battles. This would really add a sci-fiish touch to the game. It be cool battle piarets and to telleport onto their ship. It also be coll to add starfighters to the game while your at it. Also, joining fleets of starships would be cool.



    Thank you for reading my suggestion because I know many sci-fi fans would like for this to be implemented.

    How the game is currently 2-d, it wouldn't work at all. Just go onto Starmade and learn one of the many Cash exploits and just buy yourself a titan and destroy puny ships.

    As far as I know, this is a feature planned for far in future.
    Battles would work like FTL (Faster Than Light; here's a link for the lazy)

    This means that battles would be 2D and would be fought by targeting systems on board your opponents ship for attacks, and operating systems on board your own.
    Hopefully, this also means that your party could act a fleet of starships, taking on battles you encounter as a team.

    Multiple times I thought about getting that game, and multiple times I realized how much I wouldn't play it.

    It seems more like a flash game than anything to me, and I would really hope that Tiy makes a better way for battle than TFL.

    Yes because NO ONE else thought of this.
    But really, its difficult to implement in a 2D environment, and the FTL system is pretty damn good for stuff like Battle Royals, especially if they incorporate freedom of movement and boarding

    I disagree. Anyone remember Escape Velocity Nova? That was a brilliant game - 2D, top down spaceship combat with upgrades/trading etc. I don't know how much work it would take to enter space combat like that into the game but it might, I say might, be worth a look.

    You may be right here, it may be a possibility that the camera will change perspective when entering a space battle, which could mean an entirely new approach to space battles than we have been anticipating.:idea:

    I dont think we need space battles. Just my thought, but i feel it would take away from starbound. I do like the pirates on your ship though. :lickitung:<3

    I also think the Starbound spaceship art style would look pretty f'kin' cool in that top-down view.

    I'm leaning towards top-down being the best solution here too...
    Of course, for mods that allow you to design your own ship, this could prove a little messy, because what would determine the way your ship looks from the top?

    An easy solution would be to make 'spaceship' biomes. Relatively small (maybe a few ISS sized) maps that can be empty, dilled with friendlies (like a village) filled with enemies (like a temple) or filled with monsters and 'heck' items.

    You can explore and loot- they can even become quests or alternate uses for yhe distress beacon.

    Let's not. Starbound already has 2d player combat and fully customizable/destructible ship interiors. Work with that.

    One of my favorite ship battles is from a DS game. Dragon quest heroes: Rocket Slime may be a far way off from the Starbound genre, but it has many features that can work well in the game. The ship battle itself is abstracted out while the player deals with on board tasks like loading cannons, defending the ship or assaulting the enemy ship. Ship battle breaks the core open, after which only a boarding assault can secure victory. The weapons themselves are pretty varied, making up a supply of attack/defense/support options for the battle.
