I'm not saying they're space wizards, but they're space wizards Basically, you have cliche looking wizards (none of this Harry Potter stuff) and have them flying around in space doing wizard stuff. Some wizards could attack you, some could just sell you some of their patented space magic or something, Space Wizard Merchant's Shop of Space Magic and Stuff Emporeum. And that is ow space wizards work, well, I suppose a whole lot more could be added and suggested, so add and suggest stuff. ~Darkstar
The whole "magic" aspect in this game is causing alot of debate Some people don't want magic in a sci-fi game, some tottaly need it! And some suggested interesting ways to add magic, like genetics, little drones that use elemental attacks... anyway, what if instead of space wizard's shop, they add a biological chemistry space-lab? you could change your DNA to get magic skills
Hmmm, that makes sense, but who's to say that can't be a race of people or creatures that instead of technology used magic or rather "Space Magic" to attain A) a constant rate of evolutionary civilisation and space travel. It is also viable answer to say that "Space Magic" is actually their own for of technology, and was created rather than suddenly brought into existence through some metaphysical event. It can also be said that they applied their magic into making objects that allow the evolutionary system to proceed, our current technology can be considered a form of magic in a sense as it brings various things together to form a whole and allow for say, space travel. A DNA modification lab would be such a bad idea either though, altering your own dna to be able to perform supernatual feats is a perfectly acceptable thing to do in sci-fi, not to mention the fact that espers can be created through the use of science, if given correct circumstances of course.
I like this idea! But how about this: "Spacewizards" could be their name given by the ones who seen them... or maybe "Space-weavers", "Space-angels", "Star-Dancers"... As an alien race that has developed so far it can survive in cold space, and has mastered technology allowing them to bend space and time to their will, they course space on some unknown quest... Usually they will ignore cosmonauts passing by, just being all mysterious and beautiful shining ghosts floating through the darkness of space... But every so often, they will send players on quests to do their bidding... Quests could range from finding mysterious artifacts, battling ancient monsters... and should be all VERY difficult, highlevel stuff. Experienced, battle hardened players will wish they encounter one of these creatures to face the ULTIMATE test of their abilities. Or maybe their quests could be really weird... The creatures explain that our simple minds just cannot conceive of what this task really means to this universe... great responsibility lays on the player's shoulders! Anything from: Capturing 20 bunnies on planet Vartlark and dumping them into the volcano on the lava moon of Ran'tor... To Venturing into a dark, dangerous alien tomb to turn off a light/stove someone forgot to turn off. The quests would be difficult either way, even if kind of pointless and weird... but the rewards would make it all worth it. Epic gear that simply defies the laws of the universe!
I do like this idea, it is very cool. Although I am still hung up on the idea of basic principles that they are wizards who travel in space, but yes this basically what I meant when they have quests and the like, high leveled quests that seem pointless to you but could very well save the universe or something. I do like the idea of collecting 20 bunnies on one planet then just checking them into a volcano on the nearest lava moon. I like all of the things you suggested up there, all very very awesome, and was pretty much exactly what I was going for with the exception of them looking like wizards. Although I also enjoy the image you're giving me of the Space Weavers (fantastic name)
My concept would have probably looked similar to Davidians of the Star Trek universe: Lean, bright shining, floating creatures...
