Space travel duration

So I was wondering will space travel in the space ship be longer or shorter depending on the distance you are going. I only ask this because in the streem of space travel he looks like he travels farther but spends the same amount of time in the ship. I would like to maybe have long peoiords in my ship traveling to add to the realism. People may say "I don't want to wait around for ever in my ship. I want to get out an do stuff." But I think it adds more enfsis on how far you are actualy traveling. Maybe install better stardrives that get you places soon for those impatient people. I would love to have an excuse to redecorate my ship while traveling to a planet several light years away. Thoughts?

I added this to the suggestions page called "Longer space travel time for longer distances" in the mechanics section.

I don't know the answer, but I think it would make sense as a feature. I definitely think that it would help the immersion of the universe.

if I am not correct the space travel time acts as a loading screen but you can do stuff like crafting and inventory management instead of waiting for a bar to fill

Please don't make it any longer than I've seen on the streams. Even that was too long. Also, please leave in the feature that allows us to beam down to the planet before the "space travel time" is done.

It would make sense, if that were the case. But I'm not sure of how the system currently works.

That's why I said make the ships upgradable so for people who don't want to wait can upgrade their ship. I find it more realistic and fun to have long travel periods.

unless your ship is traveling through a wormhole, in which case every travel would be the same time.

I'd like to see longer ship travel times for longer distances. Post this on the suggestions forum and put a link up, I'll upvote it. :3

Tiy has stated that the loading time between planets is instantaneous. The space travel sequence is mostly fanfare.

@OP: I don't believe it will be longer or shorter but there isn't any official word as of yet.

  11. It makes sense, but for me one thing that worries me more is the amount of fuel being the same for every distance instead of distance calculated, what can make space exploration not that interesting, with capability of going everywhere with the same little amount of fuel. :cautious:

If they wanted to make it realistic, it would take minimum of ten years to go from star to star at light speed.

    Do we really want that?

Dude, not that realistic, we'd all die of boredom
I think what he means is a contrast of how far/close a star/planet is to you. Like if a planet was 5 light years away it would take 10 seconds. 20 light yars would take 40 seconds, ect. Just to at least show the player that farther planets take longer to get to.

For balance and realism sake, I agree with what Bacon said. The amount of fuel spent will need to be calculated per distance traveled. Even in Skyrim and Oblivion, while fast traveling might be instantaneous, the days and nights do vary based on the proximity traveled from a given location.

Needs to be enough time for the planet to load, and longer then that would get fairly boring in my opinion.

I recall hearing somewhere that the "light Speed" animation was actually a glorified loading screen as the game pre-loaded and pre-rendered all the blocks on the destination planet...

The idea is that everything is fully loaded by the time you get to the planet, so that way in multiplayer and stuff you don't get those "missing chunks" like in minecraft.

It is NOT for loading purposes. This is directly from Tiy.
