Space the final frontier... Or Err only for planets?

I feel that a space game should give a little bit more emphasis on the element of space; other then simply converting into Inter-stellar highway 64. From the way the game feels currently you're the only being out there with a space ship, and mentions of codex, and other races on other planets just seem to be plonked down with no real impact in space. I feel there needs to be non planetary random encounters, in the solar systems, Or (possibly?) on the way to them. Think of fallout 1 or 2 style. Also I am really hoping for a basic element or the potential of space piracy or traps set up by pirates. You get a random encounter that's a distress beacon,(beams you directly into a space set dungeon) that turns out its a trap, you fight off pirates and defeating them getting Tech, items, etc,etc. You could have merchant ships (or merchants that sell ships/ buys ships) , other elements then just planets. Also this would add another layer of freshness and possibility, even if you're visiting the same sectors you could always hop back to your planet and find a wrecked battle cruiser or kill off a bunch of pirates, or upgrade your ship, (Or steal one from somebody else)

I hope we add more potential to the element of space in a game about space exploration. You have multiple sets of species living in the same universe yet they feel soo distant and apart, as I've stated earlier it feels as if you're the only one with a space ship, I would really like to have feeling taken away.

 

The devs already said that they were eventually going to get around to filling in the space that is "space."

 

I eagerly await what they produce.
