My question is if you are on a multiplayer server, can others go on your space ship? And will there be NPC ship crew? Maybe to recruit them? Thanks in advance!
To answer your first question: we have seen players go to other players' ships in past streams. As for the second: I'm not sure. Mayhaps or Mayhaps not.
As far as I'm aware, there has been no mention of this. That doesn't mean they don't exist however, but it's my belief that there will not be NPCs in your ship, I think it would get crowded fast. But more likely, it seems to me, there may be an NPC ship of some sorts. I'm not sure what an NPC ship crew would do, what did you have in mind?
If we ever get bigger ships that would need crew members, it would make sense to be able to recruit NPC. Until then, no NPC crew as far as I know.
I think if anything you'd probably be more likely to encounter NPCs aboard their own ship or station. Traders and mercenaries, for example - protective NPCs who join you for a price, and do all the combat while you're busy mining and/or building.
Speaking of having guests on your ship, what happens when you decide to warp when other players are on your ship? Since everyone has their own ship, if you warp with other people riding with you, would their ships suddenly warp to the same planet as well? Or would it just not let you warp? I could picture some situation where someone got stranded on a planet cause they hitched a ride with their friend and they just ditched them there. That wouldn't seem very fair (though, that could offer a rather interesting role-play rescue scenario...)
My understanding of how it works is with a party system, you join a players party and then you can teleport between their ship and your ship, regardless of what planet the ships are on. There's probably also a back up method implemented as well in the event a party gets disbanded you would still be tethered to an instance of the ship above the planet your on that you can beam back to, and from that go to your ship.
Last I heard, a Player can travel with their Ship with other Players inside, & the other Players's Ships don't follow, but instead stay where they were parked. Only the Ship Owner can control a Ship, so it is possible for a Ship Owner to give other Players a ride to another planet, then have them beam down, then just vamoose & strand those other Players there. I think i'll do my own flying around in my own Ship, thanks...
Surely this will not be the case. I'm thinking that if you hitch a ride on another players ship, get out on another planet, and said player leaves then I'm sure if you hit the "teleport to ship" icon it will return you to you own ship. Then again, maybe it will be CFs little way of saying don't hitchhike with people you don't trust.
That's what I'm thinking it might be. It wont be fun if your stuck on a planet and there is no way out... but for some people they might like that. For the NPC crew, I had the same idea for the crew. I'm sure they said you'll have a home planet so your crew probably be hanging there, if ya can get a crew. also i thought it might be cool to call in stuff from your crew like air strikes, supplies, even that cool looking mech .
I can imagine myself being stranded on a ocean planet, nothing but a tiny island and water. I can imagine myself using my back hair to make ropes, with the ropes I'd wrangle a bunch of sea turtles and turn them into a temporary space ship, then fly myself home or I could just drink the rum stashed on the island by a bunch of rum runners and wait for rescue. What? No, I didn't just copy that from Pirates of the Caribbean, what are you talking about!? It could make for some very interesting scenarios indeed.
