You have a space station. What if on that space station you set up a broadcasting station? You would have to find a DJ to run it. Along with playing music you couldn't listen to otherwise, he would occasionally post news in the chat window (assuming that there is one). He would say things such as: "Explorers have encountered an alien artifact on [planet], but were driven off before it could be recovered," or "There has been a population boom of [creature] on [planet]. It is advised you steer clear." (thanks for the ideas, friend ^.^) If you decided you wanted to look into these developements, you could open the radio tab in the logbook and accept these as side quests. (sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I don't know where it should be posted)
I read your other post about a radio station, a pretty interesting idea and one that is so basic (but important) that most wouldn't have thought of it. It could unlock all kinds of things, like receiving news about what's going on in the galaxy as a whole with other players or keep in constant contact with your homeworld/colonies. But if every player could play their own music then it would just turn into a mess that could go largely ignored, sorry. What I though was really cool was the advisories of which creatures were abundant on what planets, like maybe different material-yielding creatures had their own seasons.
Sorry forgot mention this in the last post . It could also broadcast your location to specific players or the whole galactic community who have a SETI program in place (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence). Add this to the Suggestion Compilation Thread (http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/suggestion-compilation-thread.651/#post-92008) and bring it up with the guy who posted it (Blue) about adding it to the list so the Devs will see it.
You aren't playing your own music. It's music in-game that can only be heard via radio. btw I like your idea on how you could brodcast your location to others.
Well thanks for the compliment , but I really can't take all the credit. This idea was sorta inspired by Spore, I even went onto the Spore Wiki to remember what the SETI stood for . And now I understand your music idea; you control the space so you control the music that's played there, right? But what if you're in unclaimed space, does that mean no music, or is it just different music that you don't need a radio to get?
My idea was that your space station transmits music to your radio if you don't like what you're listening to. What do you mean unclaimed space?
Haha, my bad. My last reply kinda worked on the assumption that players would be able to own multiple planets, so unclaimed space means planets and areas of space no player has set up a base in .
When I saw space radio I thought of something similar to Fallout 3's Enclave and Galaxy News Radios. That would be cool.
You know, this could be done over the internet, but i would be up for the idea of running a radio myself in Starbound, even the idea of a radio broadcasting system in the game that could go out to everyone with the right equipment, so you could listen from everywhere, you know, make it a public radio station?
One station should be: taking small bits of other players conversations and displaying them to you. One or two lines and thats all from that conversation. I think it would be funny. It wont display who is speaking, and would have an automatic vulgarity censor, or "listen at your own risk". Or, you could have official stations players will bid on. For example: Ocpii is popular. It could be easier for him to get an official station because of reputation and then broadcast his ideas. (just an example)
This is honestly the most accurate representation of my idea. You have normal game music while playing. Turn on your radio, and you hear songs that override the game's music (so instead you only hear the radio). You could also submit your own songs made by using the new instrument system, too. Make a song using a bunch of instruments and submit it to put it into the song rotation of your radio station. Or, seeing as it's your radio station, you could select what songs from the game are in the rotation, what songs that are radio exclusive are in the rotation, or even make the station play only the songs you submitted. I could totally rewrite a bunch of old game music (Anyone up to listen to the original mario theme? ) and just have the station play solely the songs that I've made/retrieved and submitted. ... I think in Saints Row the Third you could set up something to only play certain songs on the radios in cars... I might be wrong though. Wouldn't be a first time.
Such a feature should be optional, if present. I tend to find this sort of thing infuriatingly annoying.
Hmm... This makes me think... With that note on hearing other peples conversations, should one not be able to eavesdrop on someone? Like i work for som rich dude that wants to assassinate another guy on a planet, to be better prepared for the assassination i could simply monitor their chat and maybe their movement. This would ofcourse be very late-game, but still.
This suggestion reminds me of another one posted by myself. http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/the-spotter.18295/ It serves a similar purpose but with different flavor. Maybe you could use both to get twice as much information.
