If the dev team chooses to add spaceships and all related things... maybe make it similar to the game FTL: Faster Than Light? The general gist of it is... nope, can't describe it, GO PLAY THE GAME. IT IS FUN. PLAY IT. NOW. Most of the ideas apart from manning stations would translate pretty smoothly, IMHO... since I'm tired right now, please just post your criticism and I'll try and be nice.
How can you criticize a great idea?!?! I like the sounds of this, but I think that someone else already posted something like it. Then again, it could've just been a dream. Regardless; The Sorcerer approves
They said post-release maybe. Anyways, in the 1 hour 40 mins long stream i recorded (For private use only), you can see the spaceship. Wont put it here trough. Its kinda like an building like ones you can build in planet with form of ship, you can decorate it, add lights, chests, change it, add doors, etc. I dont know if you can modify the shape of the ship, but i saw them put one of those Ape-Picture thingies on it. You can go to it at pretty much any moment (I hope not while in battle) currently, and the traveling system seems neat. You press in a computer, choose a coordinate or set it to target a random one, you get the level of the planet and a bit of is size in a info screen, and then you travel to it. Background moves a bit, then you see the planet from far away in the background. They said they gonna change it and add a star map where you can see star systems, galaxies, etc. They also said that people would be able to change pretty much everything in game without coding knowledge at all, so i guess a mod could be made for this. (Space Stations PLUS?) So well, im gonna see that FTL thing. Yeah, fighting a swarm of enemies and then a big boss with nice mechanics is the best. Saw the trailer. It looks good, but if there is spaceship battles in SB, they will probably be side-view, and with tons of customization to make your ship the most powerful in galaxy. So yeah, i hope this to happen, would add a whole new stage and possibilities for quests/events. Wouldnt always need to be Battle Battle Battle, but something like avoiding asteroids while going to a far away planet would also be nice. Ships that hide behind asteroids and try to penetrate your ship with laser drills, anyone? Overall, this suggestion isnt any new, and has already been spoken about by devs. Actually you re not giving anything new. You should try to build up your ideas a bit. Things like singular weapons doesnt need to be built, but most of mechanics need time and love before being posted. I recommend you to think about idea while showering/in bed, then put it on a notebook, trust me, it works. And if you need help, ill gladly help anyone in the forums to make an idea. Also, pretty sure this goes to the Mechanics subforum, not vehicles. You re not suggesting a vehicle like a car or anything, you re suggesting a mechanic, which is: Space Combat.
Okay, I'll move it, and I didn't see the podcast. Sorry. Also, I suggest what I can when I can, I have a tendency to forget things, so the basic mechanic of the weapon is the best I can do. And of course, "aim at anything, fire everything" was the main point. EDIT: How do I move threads? Argh, I fail forums forever.
Nah, don't want to intrude. Let the thread die if you want, if you think the idea itself works, post feedback.
Space combat seems like a very important thing to add eventually. I could understand it not being in the initial release though. But it has too much potential to ignore completely. We must have it... eventually! The only problem I can see is that space battles may annoy people who are only into the main sandbox platformer aspect of the game. But there has to be some way to make it not a problem for them, while still finding a way to add space combat to the game. Sarzael mentioned mods... maybe an official (made by the devs) space battle mod ? It would be optional. Just one idea. There may be other ways too.
ohh... I love that... like in Advance Wars or Fire Emblem! that might be kinda odd if we only had one ship though. Maybe some other form of turn-based combat. I dunno....
The fight is juste 1v1.... Why not X v X (many vs many) Also Your idea (spatial fight) is part of my idea : http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/spatial-exploration.11344/
Attack/Avoid? On a Peace Server, if either ship picks avoid, the fight doesn't happen, on a PvP, if both ships pick Avoid it doesn't happen?
Actually, yeah.... I don't see why it couldn't be like Fire Emblem, Super Robot Wars, or similar after some more thought. If finding crew is a problem, then I suppose most of the other ships on your side could be AI controlled friendly ships. Or it could be small battles until more crew are recruited. Terrain could be asteroids, dense asteroids (they're closer together & more of them), debris, and I dunno what else. Maybe you can even harvest the stuff for resources/pixels? It might be a bit of work to program. Maybe it's better left for a mod or post-release expansion. If it gets in the game, anyway.
Or space combat could be life Starfarer (http://fractalsoftworks.com/) youse should check that game out. I have the game and it is excellent in it's genre.
For a spatial combat system i can offers some game : -Starwring, or Starfox on snses -After burner on 32x -Super Aleste on snes That will be better acording to me ... But the best for me is starfox as a spatial combat system.
When I think of starbound space combat I think of Galactoid THough, It would be really neat if we could free travel in are ships in space...And run into random groups of space pirate ships...
as fun as spaceship battles are and how extremely talented i am at them. this would be like creating two separate games. the mechanics would be completely different to the rest of the game. and thats why i support because it would be like getting two games for the price of one.
I think that that can be in one game... Also the game will have more contained Also we can put relation beetween them
I think he meant that he likes the idea of getting so much varied gameplay from just one game. More for the money.
