It would be cool if you could travel around space and find randomly generated ships that have cool loot but would be infested by like zombies or aliens. I don't know if this was suggested before but it would be cool to find abandoned ships with good objects and be able to board other people's ships to take over them and fight to keep them while boarding. (Kinda dragged this out but this is my first post.) :d
I'd like to see occasional random encounters, for when trying to go from the station to a planet, you happen to run into a "Final Fantasy-esque" space encounter against a plethora of things. maybe space debris holding matter that is important to a sidequest, a trader seeing a potential seller/buyer making his or her way to another system, or even as you said, a hostile vessel trying to kill/loot your ship. It would definitely break up any monotony when going from station to planet.
I largely agree with this idea. Perhaps you could have a mini version of something like Metroid Fusion going down on a ship, and going in to investigate, and discover whole new species, and new technology. This also brings up the intelligence of such beings. Perhaps the ship was raided and taken over, some technology destroyed, and now controlled by a sentient race, which would be possibly hostile. Or maybe instead of all that abandoned stuff the ship could still be controlled by its native race, which would be fully interactive, as in you could have a literal ship battle with them, or do missions for them, and get them as allies, or as stated in the OP, raid them for technology or to steal their ship, and start making a fleet. Maybe even liberate a huge abandoned ship and use that as your new means of transportation across the universe. The possibilities for such a thing are nearly endless, and if the mods take the whole other ships thing seriously, then this is seriously going to be the best game I've ever played.
