One of the four things that are important to a good game to me , the soundtrack (the others being graphics, gameplay, and if there's Raccoons). It's a HUGE reason why I started to play Terraria, and I haven't heard ANYTHING at all about the Starbound soundtrack. Will it be made by the same people who made the Terraria Soundtracks, or are you guys trying to do it solo? I don't need a sample, I just want to know what it'll be like. Is it gonna be modern? Retro (8-bit, or 16-bit), or a new style?

Just uh.. Just throwing that out there.

Yes, every great game has an amazing soundtrack. For me, anyways.

I would not mind at all if Scott Lloyd Shelly helped with this.

I get the impression it will have a similar vibe to that of Terraria but of course they won't be the same.

Given that Tiy has said he wants a retro sound all I can think is 8 Bit but that might be pushing it a little :3

I'd imagine it going something like this:

I wouldn't really like soundtracks, i'd rather have a SH*T LOAD OF... a lot of unique planet-themed sounds, like some frost-y winds on the Ice planet, or some birds in the forests, and, why not, ink-y sounds at the Tentacle planets... Constant loops get boring after a while - unless the music is really catchy - but i also hope that short soundtracks will play randomly, just like it happens in Minecraft ;)

This game is already looking great. I wouldn't worry too much about the soundtrack, considering the fact that the game looks so good, and that Terraria's soundtrack was also pretty good, I'd be more worried about when they're going to release the game :p

I love retro music, even though i never play so many retro games xP

I do hope there is in an option to swap between soundtracks, I'm not that big a fan of 8-bit.

    However, good ambience is key.

First I just want to ask how anyone can not like chiptune (another name for music from the 8-bit era where music was created from sound chips).
I rember in pokemon heart gold, a remake of the gameboy game, there was an item that made all the background musc sound 8-bit.
So they could have an 8-bit version of the music for people who like it.

And the music should also match what is happening in the game, but that's a bit obvious.
