To make an end to this arguing, may i suggest a poll about the state of the game and if it is worth to release, in its current version?

I don't think this would be a good idea. It would just incite a lot more rage and people looking for excuses to try and make others feel like crap.

Yeah, it's really easy judging other people's decisions. I personally consider your purchase of ESO to be a pretty poor decision. :p Thing is, it's not your place (or mine) to tell anyone else what to spend their money on, regardless of your (my) opinion about it. By all means, have an opinion - say something like "I don't feel that fifteen dollars is a lot of money to lose on something", just don't couch it in terms of what other people should or shouldn't do. You'll make more friends that way. :)

I'm surprised you didn't get a warning for that reply, that was pretty blatant flaming.(Instead you got likes from them)

The poster brings up a great point! Of course its subjective! Everything is, if you look hard enough. Given the state of things and the fact that last real stable patch was about 8 mths ago(not counting nightlys/hot fixes), asking if there is an implication in there whether they say "done!' after 1.0, was a justified question. A lot of us had the same "hrm" moment from those comments. He(Rink)beat us to the obvious question.(Which of course, Tiy answered) We're all very nervous right now. We can't wait for a "Post Beta/Early Access" release, but we're scared of what that may be. They could very well justify "Okay! We have a playable game, time to move on." after 1.0. So I wait, and hope, its a Christmas present and not a lump a coal. I personally put in 80 hours, and stopped. I did so, so I could wait for a post beta/early access release. So c'mon guys, don't let us down!

Hah! I do have plenty of friends. Being blunt and uncaring about unimportant things (like small sums of money!) seems to work anyway! As for it not being my place to judge people sure. But that's still what I said. And I will happily say it again. If you can only spare $15 a year (Which seems to be these peoples case given how hurt they seem to be about it) then that is still a pretty poor decision to preorder a game. Just like it was with me and ESO. I just dont go demanding my money back. The money that I lost wont make me destitute. If its that important they should take more time to properly evaluate what they are considering. Its just poor decision making to do anything less.

    EDIT:
Bububu! I like my polls! How else will I decide whats for dinner? Count through all the replies myself and tally them? No thank! ;D (Yes, teasing!)

It's hard to understand my complete view in a few words. I may have misinterpretations. There are a lot of people with opinions. And so my complaints are really irrelevant. They have no influence. They have no control over development. I am a single vote. And this is one time I felt compelled to reply -- even if unheard, ill-advised or contested.

This is in response to Starbound "finished" or "1.0" - This will be summed (Tiy):

I have seen the development process from before it's kick-start to it's release. I have spent money. Contributed fifty-five hours. Time filled with relative contentment, but out of excitement and newness. I held considerably more confidence towards the future. I craved the prospective achievements. Today I worry. Your words are padded with complacency. While there are many understandable reasons for you to defend your words and actions, I fear the smothering affection. The pride that buries flaws. The lessened ambition from both criticism and favoritism. Nothing is powerful than an unrecognized bias.

You find precedence in numbers. Reviews that are easily contradicting, inaccurate or plain stupid individually. You look at allottment. The manipulation of statistics. Figures that mark cordially to a goal. The devotees. People who will love your faults. Defend you. Pretend to understand legit arguments and find inventive responses. People who strengthen a community but obsess and contribute generously. Fun an open ended intention. This feeds your passion. But I see now that too can be negative.

Currently, I see a playground instead of an amusement park. Which one you specify is how accurate my explanation is above. I can not make you do better than what you believe. And while you boast about it's stability. It is disregardful. Do not define an accomplished product game by it's appropriate stability. Early Access is as much a marketing ploy as it is an investment. I write in hopes of acquiring a truly complete experience -- not harm gratification.

  9. If you cant read through hundreds of posts featuring nothing but walls of texts based on what you should eat for dinner, then maybe you shouldnt eat dinner

  10. It was pretty clear that he wasn't saying anything about stopping development and I'd say my dedication to helping people in the tech forum entitles me to a snappy one-liner every now and then xD. You are entitled to your opinion and if what I'd said offended you, you have every right to report it.

I tend to think flaming is far more inflammatory than pointing out that the poster didn't read (or at the very least had poor comprehension of) what was posted.

I've seen warnings and bans for less. Let people vent, they have plenty to vent about. On that note, big THUMBS UP to the Mods.(Strong, in the censorship they are.)They have been quite patient, thus far. In any case, looking forward towards this fabled 1.0 release. Oooh, got goosebumps. :p

Edit: Oh and it wasn't pretty clear, it was "subjective". ;)

  12. I can't say the same, the majority of bans that happen on this forum are toward repeat offenders who perpetually spread hate or bitterness. If one person, one time, says something mean, it's usually handled quietly or at the most it's given a point. The people who get banned tend to be the ones using every thread as their own personal soap box for things that have nothing to do with the topic, usually in belligerent ways (see people like mwpow3ll). My intention wasn't to hurt anyone's feelings, it was to point out that people shouldn't post if they can't be bothered to read the thing they're posting about.

EDIT: Pretty sure it was clear what he was saying.

On it's own, in a vacuum, it's not either the fault of the post or Tiy. It's the fact that this does not take place in a vacuum that causes the problem. We're seeing indie developers left and right who are dropping commitments when they realize near the end of the project they can't commit to them. Names like Paranautical Activity(who recently refused both the polishing of the controls that were promised day one and multiplayer that was advertised on their Steam page up till last month). Project Zomboid, also a great game, almost met project death after a explosion between fans and the coders on twitter of all places after a break in and theft left them months behind. Several games that shall remain nameless that have been kicked off of distribution services or who's devs have completely vanished, and countless projects that have been killed because of developer backlash. It's happening everywhere.

These are valid criticisms. A person can be upset because they think development is going slow. They can be upset because of lack of story, or thinking Tiy's a "weener"(well, maybe not this one). These are valid feelings, but the outrage is not just this - It's those people who feel they have a valid complaint and these posts simply deflect the issue in a passive-aggressive way. My partner's the same way - he's been writing and animating a web series for the last year, and he has choosen to take a step back from the public side of things because he knows he can't separate himself enough from his project to take that criticism and respond properly. Right now it's one of the voice actors that has been cleaning most of the youtube poop from his inbox, and responding when he can.

In summary, it's not just the post that's the problem, it's the fact that it's made to come to the community and make such a broad deflection of blame. Reddit is one thing - I'd never value putting anything to Reddit any more then I'd value putting it to 4chan - but in this case, the post is literally half the battle being fought over there, and I can't see any reason it'd be dragged here other then to incite a far different riot, unintentional as it may be.

Edit: I know it's a little late in the thread, but reading through Tiy's reddit is really enlightening about the stuff going on over there.

What bothers me personally is that updating has stopped (at least through steam).
I bought the game so I could see it grow and enjoy discovering new content to play. I didn't even mind having my characters/universi wiped.

Now there is talk of "nightly" builds but no mention of how to get them or why they would have to be nightly.
I found out how to get these builds but apparently I haven't paid enough money because you need to opt-in on nightly builds aswell. I already paid for the beta and then the updates just stop coming and I'm forced to either pay more money for buggy content or just stop playing altogether?

I'm not sure what the developers are thinking but I really expected better.

  15. There is a setting in steam. If you right click on the game, select properties, click the beta tab, and select nightly.

I did, it's telling me I didn't opt in and when I try to find anything about a beta key online I tells me to buy the game.
I was really hoping to see some form of magic soon in the game but I'm really not willing to pay any more.

Doesn't seem like it on my end.

  19. You're doing it wrong?... I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but following the instructions above will get you into the nightly builds. Make sure you leave the "beta code" box empty. You don't need to touch the "check code" button, just set it to nightly and hit close at the bottom. It should change the name of the build in the library to "Starbound [nightly]" and start downloading the nightly.

Also, when you do figure it out, make sure you clear your "player", "universe", and "mods" folders as well as deleting your starbound.config file.
