Built in commands that can't be removed by servers and can be used in single player, sort of like: To trade another person you could type: /trade name To dual a person in one-on-one pvp without interference: /dual name Also there needs to be a command where you can lock a door online, like /dlock password and /dunlock pass so you can restrict entry into certain sections of a structure, like an energy generator (you don't want anyone messing with that, would you?).
Good idea, but gameplay mechanics should never be implemented through the chat functions, It takes away immersion. Now let's say you click on someone and it gives you options, or you build a lock for a door and can make a key for that door + make copies of that key, then yeah. I'd like that.
Oh my yes this. Add switch-like panels just like the switches in Terraria, and when first placed, the owner set a password to it. How exactly it should work is another discussion for another thread. But in overall I just love the ideas of protecting doors and gates with codes or key cards!
I was kinda thinking of the commands for online play, and I agree with a menu system. Still havent figured out about how the trading menu would look like, maybe a 6x6 square?
I want keys. Password locks maybe, but keys... though someone could then just axe their way through the door. Locked chests might be nice too... though I don't see why you couldn't just axe those too. Take chest. Add a block of sand. You now have a block of wood that can't be destroyed by all the dynamite in the world... and then some. Terraria logic FTW.
In my views, locked doors should be destructible, just as switches. Originally the owner places the lock on the door or designates a keylock switch and a label (perhaps?). The owner gets either a physical key Item (that can be crafted into 2 by the character, so as long as the player got a key and pixels to complete the duplication, he can have multiple copies of the key) or a switch (that the player can set it to accept either a key card, a 4 digits password or both). Doors with normal locks would be very unprotected by itself, but key lock switches could send a alert to the owner/team if its being destroyed. Besides the attempt to break the doors (which should take some considerable time depending on the material), you could try to pick the lock or hack the system. Only real problem I can see in this system is that most players would just destroy the door or dig through. I can't really think how someone can protect parts of the map with simple key or switches without disabling such an important feature that is digging and terrain deformation. I don't like server commands, feels so unnatural, destroy all the immersion.
Why not make it so that the door/chest becomes indestructible upon locking? Seems like it could be a reasonable way of protection. Next. . . how about an alarm system for your space carrier?
In my views it always feel "unnatural", cause, as I said before, it disables terrain destruction. Althought the alarm system I've already mentioned and I do like the idea. But wait... You mean Space Carrier... the space station? The devs have already confirmed the space station is not griefable so all your items in chests will be secured , hopefully. I was considering more of a thing going on on worlds.
