Some progression questions

Hi all,

So I've put maybe 6 or 7 hours into the game so far. I've got all iron gear so far. I decided to try the distress beacon and the flying saucer crapped on my face. I couldn't even slightly damage it. For whatever reason I'm having real trouble finding hardly any gold or silver, so upgrading further has been really difficult... I've probably found only 10 gold bars total for the seven hours I've played. I'm open to putting in the time to get full gold, but honestly, by how quickly that flying saucer killed me, and by how little upgrading to iron seemed to help, I'm worried gold won't help at all. I guess I feel like I'm doing something wrong? Am I? Is there another way I should be playing this game? I explored the surface a fair amount too, but didn't find anything too helpful. Also, if I dig down too deep I die of cold in about 10 seconds... presumably maybe there's more gold deeper? but I can't get down that far... I'm an Apex, if that matters...

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you travelled to other planets?

You can fuel your starship up with either coal at a1:2 (1 coal = 2 fuel) or wood, which is 1:1. Something like a threat level 4 or 5 planet would be good.

Not come across the dying of cold if you go deep thing - you can try and counter this by carrying a campfire with you and plonking it down when you need to warm back up. Bit slow though. Alternatively look at making the Snow Armour - you need the yarn spinner and a lot of leather.

 

you need to go to other planets and find some better weapons. the armor penetration rating on the weapon is the level of the weapon so the higher the better. a level 10 15 damage weapon will do more damage than a level 1 25 damage weapon. Also craft some snow armor with leather gotten from bow kills. It is OP at this point and will let you kill the boss. Be aware that in the next couple days there is going to be a patch that wipes everything we've done to date. Might want to keep that in mind.

 

Ahah! I had no idea you could go to other planets before doing the boss... I was under the impression I was stranded... I feel like they should make that a bit more clear. Thanks for the advice! I'll also try the snow armor.

I did hear something about everything being wiped... kinda lame but no big deal. Not going to stop playing because of it.

The going deep and dying from cold thing is because there was a cold biome underground. Its pretty uncommon, but they happen. I've actually found ice biomes deep inside desert planets. Like all cold situations, you need to keep warm with fires. Try another planet if it was simply unsurvivable.
