Solution/compromise

Reading this all opinions about beta, supporting Chucklefish etc i got an idea that could be good for all.
JUST:
- ask devs for pre-order possibility (to make people, who wants to help financially or just want to feel that they already bought Starbound, happy. No matter if dev team will release beta or not)
- regular (weekly?) stream with some Starbound footage until release (the same as above)

So the curious or impatient people should be happy with this streams and also people who want to help should be happy. What do you think about it?

I don't think a regular stream would be a good idea. First, because if they're spending time showing stuff off in a stream it will only serve to prolong development. And second, people will make inaccurate, negative judgements about the game because of the bugs that will show up.

Also, they are already considering a pre-order.

 

i know they are. Every single stream that was showed before also got bugs, but everyone knew that it's because they are working on something and they disabled some options just to hide it from us (more surprises on the release). So every regular stream could have such note on it, so new people could know this too.

EDIT: and also they don't have to show us too much! Look. With one stream they could for example show us some farming crops (not all), with other naturally generated cave, with other how they build house or something. They won't show us too much and if there will be one stream every week they won't show too much before release, because Starbound won't come out in the end of the year, will it? One small feature every week isn't too much for such big game, is it?

 

The problem with streams is they have to lock content down so they dont spoil it and after stream thwy have to unlock it to work with it again depending idk how hard that is from a coders persepective but even if its easy thats a whole lot of on and off button toggling

Preordering though thats an option i dont see any cons with from any perspective

I don't know about this... If the streaming would take up too much time it would take a very long time before Starbound is ready for release.

Even though I would love to see more streams of the game content I'm not sure if that's a good idea to focus on.

A pre-order beta still seems like the best choice to me... Like if they worked on that I think it would be the best choice.

If they took someone who isn't developing Starbound but is in closed beta and give him instructions what he can show us it could be easy to do i suppose.

pre-order beta is still uncertain idea until there are many people who just want to play game before release without helping devs (so it wouldn't be beta it would be some kind of pre-release). That's why i came up with this idea. To avoid pro and con discussion about beta.

 

There doesn't seem to be much point to asking for a pre-order, the devs are more than aware of the number of people who want to pre-order the game already. Honestly, given how many times people have asked about it, I don't think there is a way they couldn't know already.

I think you are underestimating what goes into planning a gameplay stream. Its not just "hey let's stream us randomly doing stuff".

 

Many people are pushing devs to make pre-order + open beta. I'm suggesting just pre-order without any early access.
Maybe i am underestimating what goes into planning stream, but their streams didn't look so difficult to make. It's just idea, i don't know what devs would say about it.

I think the devs mentioned that they don't want to sell something (pre-order) without giving something in return at the time of sale. And while there are a bunch of threads talking about pre-order / beta, this thread is talking about something different than the ones I've read. And that different thing is selling a pre-order for access to weekly streaming or updates on dev progress. Something like having access to a sub forum where they post weekly updates and stuff would be boss. I'm more with dev progress updates over streaming, streaming would take a lot to setup and then do and that would detracted from development. But just putting a list together and saying, we added this feature today would be quicker and still give people their fix. Plus, so long as they leave out what isn't completed it'll keep the nay sayers from getting pissed over an unfinished product.

I'm still on the train of thought were I think doing a preorder for early access is the way to go. Then you don't have to worry about an unfinished beta leaving bad tastes in people's mouths and those who want to pre-order can play the game while disk are being burned or something. And maybe, as the OP suggested, we can get updates on dev progress before the early access starts.

There are no problems with beta.Also,tiy talked about beta in preorder.What do I think about it?

This suggestion would just be lost in hundred of "release beta please" posts in one of these threads. There always will be people who doesn't understand that some features are disabled for streams and/or some are still in development.
