Softlock after being imprisoned by Mayor in the first town

This is on Nintendo Switch with the latest patch.
After you start exploring the caves behind the prison cell you'll come to a part where Sam announces that's it's her turn. You'll get control of Sam, but a maybe 5-10 seconds after that the screen will stop scolling and the enemies will freeze in place. Sam's charge attack will no longer do anything, as will John's Frypan attack. I mean, they still animate, but will have no effect on the enemies. John and Sam can still move, and can even move off screen, but nothing will happen if you try to move to another area.

EDIT: This is a repeatable bug. I've tried reloading 4-5 times, and run into this issue each time.
