Just a small suggestion with regards of the different player modes in Terraria. For everyone who hasn't played it: At character creation, you could choose to play a softcore, mediumcore or hardcore character. The difference was in dying: softcore chars only lost some gold, mediumcore lost EVERYTHING that they had equipped and what was in their inventory, and hardcore chars where dead. Forever. I'd like something similar in Starbound, and i guess you guys already planned something like that. BUT: For the sake of PvP, it would be great if you either change mediumcore a bit or give us something between soft and medium. I think this needs a little background: Not long ago i tried joining on my first pvp server with a few guys i knew and some new ones that just joined. The idea was promising: We would start a new server, form two different teams (three if there had been more people) and walk in different directions on the map. We then tried to build a base somewhere hidden and hunt the other team down like animals. It was pure fun, but to make things more interesting, we tried mediumcore characters. Just losing some money seemed too easy. The problem was: we didn't progress at all. It was terrible. At one point, we went for an adventure to find the enemy base, and we were successful. So we tried to tunnel into their base in complete darkness, while.... well, it's a suggestion thread, not a story one, let's just say it was great until we died. And gave them hooks. And armor. And everything we had. Yeah, we should have cleared our bags, it was stupid, but nevertheless... TL;DR. Wall of text for a small idea Long story short: Give us a mode where you drop something, but not everything; a mode to play against each other, where dying at your enemies hands hurts, but doesn't ruin your progress that much. It should be easy to code in, but on the long run many would use it i guess. Maybe you can give us a mode that is especially designed for such PvP servers like i told you up there, IF there are some people who like to play a server with hostile player fractions. I have to say: Try it, it's incredible In other news: Hamsters sometimes gather in giant megaswarms, counting over 7 billion individuals. They do so to hunt raccoons, their favorite prey. It is known.
I did rather enjoy that in Terraria, the differing character difficulties, not just a monetary lost but much much more~
Yeah, it's just that the difference between losing some money and losing everything you carry is too harsh (for PvP at least). Another problem Terraria had was that the stuff could despawn after a few minutes (on our server at least... on other servers i had the feeling it sometimes laid on the ground for half an hour or longer... I could never wrap my head around that completely). Also: Some hamsters own raccoon pets for entertainment reasons. It is known.
Yeah, I'm certainly curious to see how drops will work cross planets or stations, hopefully not nearly as harsh as Terraria.
Bump for hardcore mode. I love having super harsh penalties in games. If you get killed in pvp or something, all your stuff should drop or your body should be lootable so other people can take your stuff. Not sure how items and stuff will work.
Never played hardcore or mediumcore. I realy wouldn't like to play play and then BAM - all my stuff lost T_T/char lost Q.Q
some people like having a second chance with their stuff. i'm like drop the weapons the person who dies carries with him in his/her left and right hand slot. so you lose something, but not everything.
my thoughts on this.7out of 10. yet what would the things be cause possibly some of the more advanced teams would have thecloning abilitie rendering the hradcore mode uselesss to them.o would it be different for every team?
Huh It seems you're implying the exact opposite of what your story describes for me. PVP shouldn't be about something meaningless, like money, it should have elements of risk and reward, if you go in with all your best equipment sitting in your bag and die, the enemy gets it and uses it against you, if they were better than you it wouldn't change much but if they were worse equipped they'd now have benefited from your arrogance and deserve it. In fact I think this play style is more appropriate for pvp than pve where you can constantly come back to finish whatever you left off on. But options are always nice.
