so whats with the mushroom people?

Really what am I looking at? is it a Floran sub-species or what?

 

Yeah, not completely sure what their deal is. I'd love to play as them though! I believe they are called 'Agarans' or something.

 

Their armor shows up in the database as a Floran design, and their skin colors and patterning seem to also be Floran. However, based on their hat names, they're called Agarans, which I think is a reference to the Agaricus mushroom. It's possible they might be an evolutionary offshoot of the Florans, as their dialogue, though mainly incomprehensible, seems to hold a definite aggressive undertone when I try to talk to them as a Hylotl.
(Also they still don't have seperate lines for combat and stuff, and it's a little odd to watch them switch from HOOM HOOM MESTI CUTSHROOM HOOM NYOOM to "You again!" and "You killed (randomname)!")

 

Well I guess we know they aren't playable, I really wish they someday become playable (or someone makes a mod of it, which considering the amount of species mod is likely)

I heard the band Mushroomhead donated 10k to the project to get a race made in their likeness.

 

Before we know it a maniac turtle monster will kidnap their oddly human princess, and they'll hire fat red plumbers to rescue her.

 

Those aren't really mushroom people and these aren't really their heads, it's a group of shape-shifting androgynous reptilian space elves who killed the real mushroom people and are wearing their heads as helmets. It's true, if you kill them you can take their heads and wear them yourself. Creepy.

 

They seem to carry human weapons at the moment, and maybe floran armor (they are just wearing funny hats by the way, you can find them and wear them yourself occasionally). Sometimes you get a universal translator error, unknown language,r when they speak. If you meet them as an avian they will ocassionally mention Kluex among the random words they say. Although many of them suddenly gain the ability to communicate if you refuse to put your weapons away.

That's what I found so far.

In the village I met I noticed that all of the sentiant beings seemed to act as "guard" type npcs. One possibility is that they are actually members of other species who have taken it upon themselves to protect thos wierd little mushroom monsters running around.

 

Floran ripped mushie headss off but not made of tasty meatsss. So put on head like cute hatss.

 

I don't think they are floran, possibly related.

 

I was saying my Floran likes to wear their heads like hats. I guess I am not good at emulating Floran speach yet. .

Well, the do actually drop meat but being mushroom people I am not sure they really should.

 

It would be cool if they dropped seed that grew a mushroom-like plant, hopefully edible.

Nope, Mushrooms are fungi. They're more closely related to molds and the like. They do look like plants because they grow on stuff, but they're technically an entirely different kingdom. Sorry, I have a bad habit of assuming stuff I know because I'm a slight biology nerd is common knowledge.

 

I guess that pretty much punches the floran theory in the face, I'm gonna see to modding this as a playable race, or just hope someone else does.

 

These mushroom people are probably a step lower than Florans, cavemen. They're probably using other race's equipment either because their's hasn't been implemented yet, or because they're scavengers. They possibly wear the mushroom hats as part of their culture. Anybody remember the Mushroom NPC of Terraria?
