as i typed when they were first posted. these notes suck and are mostly unhelpful. patch notes need to be more than "changed stuff. changed more stuff", especially during the beta stage of development.

edit: also, i was never complaining there's no notes. i've been saying they've been posted for days.

That level of detail in patch notes is pretty much the gold standard, the ideal. CF isn't there yet, unfortunately.

Does that make it okay? Kinda, since they are at least delivering the content. Would it be better if they were more explicit in their patch notes (without resorting to adult content, because that's not the explicit I was looking for...on these forums)? Absolutely. Extra detail in patch notes would be either ignored by people that don't read patch notes, or absolutely loved by people that do.

I think we can recognize that CF isn't perfect. That doesn't mean they're garbage, or that they're bad at their jobs. It just means they aren't as good at this aspect of their jobs.

For the record, I would still rather have 0 patch notes and good content in the patches. Walking the walk, but talking like a mime. Granted, I am not a modder, and I suspect that crowd would really, really like more in-depth patch notes.

The question is do you use mods?
If no - then nothing I can convince you otherwise.
If you do - well for modders detailed notes are essential. Because they need to be made aware of what has changed and what they need to fix in their mods. So in the end it benfits everyone - to at least go into some detail.

not being good at an aspect of your job means you are not good at your job. verbose patch notes are something discussed in any learning material for programming you care to examine. it is worse than other sloppy programming practices, such as not commenting code, because this directly effects your users.

i dont feel it is wrong to expect no explicitly bad programming practices from a multimillion dollar company. after all, it is much easier and less time consuming to log what you do as you do it, rather than try to remember everything you changed over the course of multiple weeks.

How are you supposed to get the Valentine's stuff? I don't have the option to make the crafting table like during the Holiday Spirit update.

You only get valentines stuff if you can prove to starbounder you are in love.
Otherwise all you get is coal.

  18. *Note: We did an oops and missed some of the content updates when we uploaded the patch, so we’ll be putting out another patch a bit later today that includes the missing stuff (the Valentine’s Day items, new microphone sounds, possibly some more).

no harm, no foul. your whole situation is entirely preventable by posting stuff on the frontpage first. we shouldent have to sift through twitter or wonder what these 500 mbs do for any length of time. important stuff should be posted on the frontpage first.

from the time the notes were pasted to pastebin till they were posted on the front page, only one bit of new info was added (originating from yet another twitter post).

i think someone needs to patch chucklefish. they seem to be stuck in "marketing" mode.
