The bigest server i can find. Then, i make friends with them. Then, once i get actual friends on there, I will claim a solar system of planets with my friends! >:U

I plan on hopping from open-server to open-server and planet to planet, collecting various creatures and weapons to sell to players. I've a friend who's a big Terraria fan that I could probably convince to setup and host an open server and if he does, I'll probably make it my base of operations. If he doesn't, I'll probably make MichelleEnd's server my HQ, assuming characters won't be locked to it.

Welp i would wait like 5 weeks, and after the time i would GREIF EVERYONES BUILDINGS, all the time they spent on it
destroyed MUAHAHAHA...i wont even make or join a server tbh

I plan on replacing my current computer soon with something better, because this thing is not cutting it for video editing.
I'm not selling this computer, so I might turn it into an dedicated server.

Well, I personally might host a factions server with a group of friends. It'd certainly be interesting, especially if each faction had its own homeworld close to each other, then you could travel to their planet and raid their base, then leg it back to your ship. It'd be really cool if they caught you and you had to try and escape them or fight them how you were. Either way, can't wait. Also if anyone is setting up a public server, count me in :p

  6. Ildac

    Ildac Void-Bound Voyager

Hoping to set up a roleplaying server for as many people as I can fit.

  7. XANi

    XANi Big Damn Hero

    • Install server on my home router/mediabox/ VM server (i3, 16GB RAM) to play with friends
    • Find biggest RP server and play there

EC2 (or any similiar cloud) WILL be more expensive than typical VPS if you're running it constantly
BUT you can start it only when you and your friends play and pay per hour which will be probably (unless you keep it 12h per day) less expensive

Im not planning on setting up a server for this game, however im making a serverlist for it (much like how the minecraft community has them)

Hi! I've been looking through the forums hoping to stumble upon someone who was creating a server for the community to join, and I'd like to say your ideas are very well thought out! I really enjoy the idea of finding a group of people who I could befriend and adapt my game with them. If you ever happen to open a registering for your server, i'd like to join :) Although I am only 17 I think i may be able to handle myself a bit more maturely than a few others.

Also on a side note, I'm not very experienced with openly registering for a server or group of any kind, but knowing the community of Starbound is very accepting, I thought why not :DD

But yeah, if you ever decide to recruit people to your server, I'd be a volunteer :monkey:

I think grief protection and such pretty much go without saying.

I'd use it as a testbed for mods I create (or if that didn't work well, a second "beta" server where WIP mods are tested before hitting "live"). I'd like to have a Starbound equivalent of the "spawn" city or "home" city that many Minecraft servers feature where everyone can meet and greet, trade, chat, etc., and although they scrapped the idea some time ago I'd still like this to be a space station. Designated PVP worlds, some with pre-built arenas and some not, as well as worlds that offer Town v. Town or Faction v. Faction warfare automatically as you enter the planet.

OP mentioned server population explosion: that's great for the player in terms of choice, but it's a double-edged sword for that player and sucky for the host because odds are that unless you're playing with a group of friends or you're really persistent in advertising and such, your server will sit empty most of the time. That said, if you've a stable internet connection you could simply play as you would singleplayer but on a server you host.

Ill probably wind up making a personal one for friends, and their friends, nothing too special, might check out some protection things just in case of server corruption or someones being a griever and such.

    Serenity The Waste of Time

Dance for pixels, and then beg for the best in game items constantly instead of doing all the work (Sarcasm)

I'll probably play the game single-player for 100 hours, and then never like multiplayer. (Like I did with Terraria)

  14. TheMurumasa

    TheMurumasa Existential Complex

Im going to pay for a dedicated server for my subscribers to use, I did that on Terraria and it was fun as hell.

  16. Jääkäri

    Jääkäri Pangalactic Porcupine

I'll probably make a server with 3 friends and a fella from Steam.

  17. TheTimeLord

    TheTimeLord Existential Complex

    MMOBound

If I had the patience, money, skills, and time to do so.

Otherwise a small group of friends to play with, maybe some forum people would like to play with the great and all-mighty TimeLord?

I'm just hosting a server with my friends, lol. so mainstream *puts on hipster glasses* Any who just using basic rules. No Griefing, No Hacking etc. Also I hate when someone finds a duplicate glitch and gives everyone the best armor and wepaon in the game and your sitting there like "AW HELL NAW!" and then when they try to make a legit character they fail cause they can't play the game without duplicating it. In other words, no exploiting glitches, and bugs. Cause that BUGS me... see what I did there huh huh ;D

  19. Quantum

    Quantum Spaceman Spiff

For both Minecraft and Terraria I play on personal servers with friends/family.
    Will be the same here.

I'm really looking forward to it. Our website is going to add a dedicated server for Starbound, some of us will be admins, and we'll hopefully have fun together with our community on it. If there's any good mods we'll probably implement them, and we'll try to keep an admin online somewhere to sort out the issues and garbage, and we'll have the 'new character, just for this server, upon first joining' option turned on. Also auto-saving the server state so we can rollback if the need arises. Since the universe is supposed to be so large, we won't get involved with greifing unless it's serious, and we'll probably have PvP turned on anyway plus I believe the game has automated defenses, but obviously hacking and the like will not be allowed. Just like how we run the website and the servers, it won't be age restricted, and we're not going to censor anyone, but we do have our number one rule, "Don't act like a complete asshat."
