So I was wondering...

Hi. I'm new to this community and game(106 hours atm, is that new?), so please forgive me if I act noobish. From what I can tell, this game is about a lone humanoid that fled from their home for various reasons, dependent on which species you choose. Having nothing to go back to and a whole universe to explore, this lone humanoid is now, as the name suggests, starbound.
So I was wondering though, are there any plans to make randomized quests? In game jobs like mining, hunting and such as an optional thing? Personally I enjoy the adventure part of this game, and, as I go on my little adventures, I find myself constantly stealing from villages and the other...more hostile areas... But I haven't found a single item worth stealing so far besides codex entries. I steal stuff anyway, just cause I can, though, lol, but anyway, are there any plans to make raiding these areas more worthwhile?
The enemies seem to drop rarish loot, but the only thing I find in their stashes is crap I could've found through mining (which I find extremely boring, and painful, considering all my pickaxes break so fast).
Other things I'm curious about are possible class abilities, like a rogue, with camoflage or a hunter or something. Any plans for this kind of stuff? Also, am I the only one who wants complete freedom of what my character becomes? (rather than a boring old miner/hunter person with a spaceship)

TL;DR: I'm a noob, what are the current plans for the game? classes, jobs, randomized quests? Any chance for raiding high level dungeonish areas to give better rewards?

Well unlike Terrarria, Starbound offers easy to install Mods. Just about all of those questions can be met with several great mods.As for classes I'm pretty sure that's not going to be a thing. But yea all of those things can be done easily with mods.

    basically this.
im on my way to 300 hours. (220 i would guess so far? )

in those hours ive dabbled with quite a few mods, and pretty much everything you were talking about can be added.
ive slimmed my game down to vanilla with a few addons, such as hylotls getting tails and more techs, beyond those i dont plan on adding more mods untill i reach endgame. where i'll have nothing else to do. *shrug*

Thanks for the replies. What are the general qualities of these mods? Could you point me to some that do what I described? Also, the last time I've been to endgame was back when the only thing standing between you and endgame was a few boss fights and some mining (literally you just mined, built an object, used the object, fought a boss, go to the next sector or whatever it was called) How long is the story (campaign, whatever it's called) now? over 200 hours worth of content? or did you take your time with it, lol.

If you install mods pay CLOSE attention to a few information:

Universe files can get corrupted by installing universe-modifying mods. (Adding new planets and stuff)
Everything that adds a new tech, codex or quest will bind the character to this mod, making it unable to load the character without this mod installed.
Only use updated mods, don't even visit the "Outdated Mods" category in the mod repository.
If there are any errors with mods installed, that's the wrong section to ask for help, as soon as you install mods the modding help section will be your new home.

This sounds complicated and not worth it, I know, but that's not true, it IS in fact worth it.
Just make sure to copy / zip / rar your universe and playerfiles prior to installing any mods.

Well just hit the 3 little bars by "forum" then hit Mods, search and enjoy to hearts content.

+1 to Kayuko's post, careful and enjoy.

The main quests definitely don't add up to 200+ hours of gameplay, but are a nice way giving the player some sort of feeling of progression.

Lol, dw, it's not my first time modding, before I played terraria, I put many hours into minecraft, which, the way I (and many others) see it, is just a massive pincushion for mods (I think I reached around 50 at some point). Honestly, it's pretty lame without mods. definitely can't say the same for starbound though. :D Thanks for the help, I'll make sure to make backups of my universe/character files before I use mods.

    completely agree.

skyrim, starbound, terraria, minecraft, oblivion, ect ect ect... oh and GTA...
other than the starbound 'feel' all theses games are pretty much required to mod. xP

    especially skyrim...
at one point at had 431 mods on my skyrim....
    anyway...
