I also suggest as a comparison check out the work on TES Renewal Project. Its a fan mod that brings the old game of Morrowind to the Skyrim Engine, and is being coded by non-paid third party so they can get it to people for free. Its been in the works for more than a few years now, and the community there is thriving even without the benefit of actually getting to play it. Some descriptors are not always indicative of what is a strong or a weak community. In fact, if Tiy reads this I'm sure he might take offense to that sort of negativity.

It's a very stable Alpha, by the standard definition of the terms.

Betas are supposed to be mostly content complete, and this. . . really isn't.

    Yeah, but for two things:

Firstly, you used the word economic and really the team already lacks an immediate economic reason to finish the game. The only economic reason to do so is to keep their good reputation, which is still going to be a thing regardless of whether people are still playing in ten years when it's finally released.

Secondly, a slow update schedule with large updates actually probably does more to help the longevity of a healthy and vocal community because every few months there's something new to talk about, as opposed to a game that updated quickly, got finished, and wasn't further updated often/at all. I mean, I don't LIKE the slow update schedule and I quit playing partially because of it. . . but also partially because I had done everything I wanted to in the current build. And if I'm gonna be perfectly honest, if updates were coming as fast as some people want and I kept playing and replaying, I'd probably get burnt out on Starbound and just never bother coming back (or not for a year or two). As it is, I'm not burnt out, just bored, and when there's a sufficient amount of content update, I'll come back, play through it, bug test it, post on the forums about the things I like/hate for a few weeks, maybe a month or so, and then slink away to come back again in another few months to do the same.

Also, @PiratePeaHat and @Darklight If you guys keep discussing VtM:B I'm going to end up replaying it again, and I really don't wanna go through the effort of making it work properly on a newer machine yet again, so stop it.

Not to mention that mods still come out on a regular basis.

Hahaha did you try using the community patch?

Yeah, but like, I dunno, a couple years ago I think was the last time I played it. It's probably got newer/better patches now.

But really I've got 175 hours on it, and it's like, what, 30 hours of gameplay per run? Stop it. I've played enough.

There is a common saying among my friends I think that was stolen from that community: "The moment someone mentions VTM:B, at least two people will re-download and patch it."

In fact, I'm actually gunna do that. Maybe I'll check the status on the Sabbat Clans too. See if they actually added my Salubri Anti's in yet.

Bloodlines . . . I bought Bloodlines at full price for a hard copy in a store and it took several years, numerous fan patches and three different systems before I could even get a title screen. I still can't get it to work. I have several games that I paid AAA retail price for that never lived up to their potential. They're sitting on a shelf right now mocking me (Fork you, too, Universal Combat. And the crazy-assed Derek Smart you rode in on). All that money and time wasted.

15 bucks for this game as it is with still more potential? That's a bargain.

lol I remember how i49 made some people angry because they should get to play it first and then it's obviously ready with no evidence to that.

It is your opinion bro, why does someone need to prove you wrong? You state how you feel, you've read the updates so you know EXACTLY were development is at this point. You are either OK with or your not, since you are not you come and challenge people to prove your wrong?? There are many discussion on this very topic (progress), no need to start a new....but why would you read anything posted already, your just here to try to put some bait on the fishing pole.

EDIT - I see you post some bait, you don't get the reaction your looking for (flaming) and then announce you leaving. Typical.

Sadly the tens of thousands of customers who bought the game on Steam had no clue of that. The community that preceded was not nearly as numerous as the one Steam brought when it launched.

quality over quantity, though. there's no reason they should know that before purchasing the game, but there is before they make a big deal out of it by making themselves look silly on the forums.

When it comes to starbound, I am in hibernation mode. It's easy for me to just forget about a game like this and move on for a while. I am a huge fan of Dwarf Fortress, and have been playing it on and off for 3 years. The last update for DF was 2 years ago (give or take) but the lead programmer still posts status updates weekly (at least). When the next release of DF comes out it will be almost a new game (cant wait). The two people working on dwarf fortress bring in about 3-5 grand a month in donations, so I think reporting on progress is better than releasing crap content.
I've moved on to State of Decay for now (best zombie game I ever played), and my wife is super into Neverwinter (Wizards of the Coast's MMO...its a WOW clone, and a good one apparently). I am looking forward to the impending release of Jetpack 2, and the eventual release of Stardew Valley. Hopefully Chucklefish gets its act together when it comes to Strbound, and I completely excuse ConcernedApe from that statement as he(?) clearly has motivation and talent. Starbound suffers from poor direction, but I wont hold that against it. I can wait patiently.

    Edit-
I bought the four pack of starbound.... I don't miss the money, I'm 30 friken years old, I spend the same money on a case of beer, and that lasts a weekend.

I have to be honest I googleyoutubed dwarf fortress because you made me curious. Really?! That game makes starbound, no...what am I saying...terraria look like the greatest game ever.Damn i like simple games but wow, pure bad(it's my opinion so...)
Now...to the op. I have to be on the same page as you.I don't like the progress of the game but,it is what it is. I just hope that the devs after they're big movement they will get busy. I mean very busy in progressing of the game. They will have no excuse of not going full throttle. I hope that by christmas the game will be in stage 3 and the next year by summer the release of the full game. Let's all just hope for the best.

Moving to new countries is a pain in the backside.
I immigrated to the states from Russia and the move has a LOT of work involved, especially involving immigration.

People hating on DF only makes people who like it like it more.

I'm not quite sure how to respond to that.

I've spent that kind of money on a case of beer that, as it turned out, I didn't even like. Of course I drank it (because it was beer) and hated every minute of it. Or at least the first hour or so.

This statement is very true (I weigh 120lbs, 55kg or so), however; I just cant afford more than one case a weekend generally.

not that i don't think DF is a good game, but that is the stupidest reason to like a game ever.

I didn't claim it wasn't a stupid reason. People who can still play an ASCII game in 2014 are a rare breed and are purists on top of it. I know a guy from high school that still plays and he's both amiably defensive and oddly protective of something he likes that most other people don't get. We're all like that to some degree.
