Will this thing ever actually exist in-game? Aaaaannd if it will.. can I make it my pet? =)

Oh, well I don't even know if the files exist in game... I just saw it online and noticed they had made other sprites for Starbound on that page, some of them I've already seen in-game. So I was mostly just curious, really...

The artist of that sprite is Rho. She also tweeted it a while back.

Check out the gallery, you can see some other sprites in there that are used.

 

Yea... I don't care It doesn't mean it's in the game files. It's just a mockup and it will be probably never or very late in the game.

 

Dude, OP was asking if it existed. It was a question. Some people don't go through the folders of the game, there's no other real research you can do besides simply asking a question.
Also, this is beta. Not everything's going to be in the game files. Who knows, what if those sprites are already prepared and ready to be used when the game comes out?

As to OP, like I just stated, you don't really know if it's going to be in the game or not. There's no real way of telling.

 

im not going against what your saying, you might be right, but in the human ship folder the old OLD guild ship was in there. also in tools they allready have the chainsaw, and mining laser

 

Yeah I've noticed a few files like that, but they're not going to have everything that may be used in the game already there.
