Kidnapped Pregnant Mother? I don't remember doing that in the game. Closest I can think of would be the momma poptop on the first world, and we don't know she was pregnant, but it is kinda cruel to off her in front of her brood (as the achievement for it states). Otherwise I'm at a loss at who you are referring to. None of the bosses qualify: half the bosses are constructs (Kluex Avatar, Big Ape, Bonewing (or whatever his name was)), one of them was a parasite (Echrius Horror), one was a cult leader who attacks you first (on three separate occasions!), and finally Cthuhlu (otherwise known as The Ruin).

I'm afraid you're going to have to explain it, or at least refer to the codex that outlines this rather disparate point of view...

Well, the stroy was good enough, but i can't tell it was "great". If it could just be longer...
And, the final boss give me "The Darkest Dungeon" flashbacks. Oh man, i'd love to see Strbound story with Darkest Dungeon atmosphere...

After all, there is a whole bunch of thing to implement and polish. Creating planets from scratch, anyone?

well killing the poptard mom and their childs is also a similar category of weird heroism, alos quite close, but not was i meant. I said not you kidnapped her, and the hint was in the "book reading" so you can go and search for that to find an answer. It's also funny hwo you named nearly all the bosses and missed the referred one. SO yes it's written in ode of the codexes/codizes? whats the plural in english?

Pretty sure LilyV3 is talking about the Ixodoom.

The codices talk about the hunters tracking it down and caging it to bring it to the hunting caverns, and kind of celebrating that it has eggs that are going to hatch during the hunt.

Edit : theres also the fact that the Ixoling has a description saying that it will become an Ixodoom after 200 years.

That just makes the whole thing a little more dark.

this, and think about it, you are a protector and what their task is, yet one of your first task esther the former and now again grand protector sends you on a mission where you just go and kill other florans because its part of the "rools" (which strangely one of the florans doesn't stick to) and it still ends said positive and achieved. Thats either plotholes or just compeletely a mess.

So you mean the thing (name forgotten) you fight with the Florian chick? Wow, talk about something that made a whopping zero impression on me. I can see your perspective there, but I think it's a bit of twisted logic to take it as being some truly evil deed. I won't claim it's a GOOD deed, but I don't think it counts as being evil...

  8. LilyV3

    LilyV3 Master Astronaut

when does it count as "evil"? Poachers killing elephants being pregnant is said to be evil and all that just for the ivory, nothing else is what we do here too. And we play a game where you have birds, plants, gasbags, robots and fishes. So why in the books of whats evil and wha not is that more or less good than just dismantling some glitch or roasting a avian. In a book of objectivity this is just rather much the same. But as logn as you give a proper "reason" thats fine I guess.

I would note that this creature is also highly aggressive and capable of inflicting a lot of harm on people as well. As I said, what you're doing isn't good, and it sits in a morally gray area, but evil? No, I would disagree with that. If you would go so far as to consider the Florians (as a race, this is one of their big cultural events) poachers as a whole, then I think you're slightly off base there. In an odd way, it seems more akin to the old Gladatorial arenas, where it was pretty common for them to sic wild animals at the combatants. Is it moral to send in the animals to try and kill those guys? No, definitely not. But is it moral to fight back against a creature you're stuck in combat with? Given the gladitorial nature of the situation, and the fact you chose to compete (not knowing about the said creature before you entered, if you recall), that's where it falls into a murky gray area...

More blame would be put on the hunters who brought it into said arena than those who blindly were sent to fight it methinks (tho our Florian girl obviously knew it was there, even if your character didn't)

  10. LilyV3

    LilyV3 Master Astronaut

The moral of simply and pointlessly killing animals is wrong in my books and should be so in someones book who is said to be a protector. And I do not rate gladiators actually to be on the non evil side when it came to fight vs caught animals. Thats similar sh****. Especially tryign to kill or arenafight a highly pregnant being. I also doubt a ixodoom is very agressive as it builds webs obviously which makes it not a hunting animal and mostly just a defensive lurker waiting for pray. And in the situation put it doesn't have much options either. And Bull fights are kinda ceremonial too, yet not even set up "fair" they are cheated stuff and hardly glorios or anything.

So I guess it's fine as long as the thing looks evil and big and is like spiderstufflike.

Wonder what wpeople would think if we would replace the sprite with a seal.

First, calm down, we can have a civil conversation and disagree.

Secondly, I agree that not all gladiators are innocent, but do remember that in our own history, Gladatorial combat was used as a way to punish prisoners, eliminate those believed to be heretics, and the like. It's quite simply not as cut and dry as that. That said, however, our character did go in WILLINGLY, and that's where it enters the dark gray area here. We (our character) went in because we needed to achieve/acquire something. What we didn't know was the creature we would be forced to face. In a way, it would have worked better if the original boss had stayed in place (the Florian champion) for this, but we do end up tossed into a fight with what is, as you defined it, a giant spider thing. In this case, we did not have the foreknowledge that would have saved an animal like that, or even that we would be facing it. That foreknowledge IS important here. Once the battle has started, it's too late to do anything other than to try and survive.

Thirdly, remember that this is an event of importance to the Florians. I don't know of what sort, but it's obvious they place a lot of importance on the event, even going so far as battling each other for the right to face the Ixidoom (or however it's spelled). This means that, even if we were to try and intervene on the creature's behalf, we would end up having to face whatever cultural backlash is involved, which given the Florian's tendency for eating other species, may have included becoming dinner.

To conclude, our character is put in the unenviable task of having to go through a foriegn species' cultural rite (assuming you're not playing a Florian, I played it as a Avian), with no foreknowledge of what would even occur or what you would have to fight. To call the player character 'evil' in that regard is a stretch in my opinion. We didn't do a GOOD thing, but we did what was necessary to survive the challenge we had been placed into. As I said, a gray area.

What makes you think I am not calm?

I just find it kinda funny when people are not actually able to properly compare 1:1
it is just strange how subjectively some humans judge stuff into good and not good or eveil, right and wrong, just because of the type of animal is different. Just take the example of chinese eating dogs and cats vs us eating pigs and cows. There is no wrong there is just different.
And then it is kinda sad as these weird lack of objectivity is what cerates loas of tensions and serious conflicts amongst humans. Which in the end makes us look pitiful and not even as intelligent as many claim huamns to be. Bu thats not so much subject of the topic.

I am not sure if we do not know anything at all from someone being a protectorate member (one that even just graduates) and this protectorate securing peace for like 500 years AND the protectorate even consisting of all races. Don't you think such an essential floran cultural thing is what you would get teached about? or did we just cheated the exam about racial cultures?

You started swearing, that's usually a sign of when someone is getting angry, that's why I asked you to calm down.

Would the protectorate know? While they might know some aspects about it, I'd wager they probably don't know a lot about the event, despite its cultural importance. Probably because the only people who would learn about it would have to go through it, as the Florians don't seem too keen on talking about it before you reach the point of no return, and even then only Naaru talks to you about it, the rest attack you on sight. Not exactly the best way to learn about the culture there. And given the Florians are extremely aggressive (to the point of threatening non-Florians visiting even peaceful towns... well as peaceful as they get), they likely are in the Protectorate more as an effort to enlighten the Florians and draw them out of their aggressive ways rather than trying to learn about them. That sort of attitude rarely ends well, but the Florians have a habit of taking what they want from other species and hunting down the rest, so maybe it's for the best? I dunno, that's a different conversation.

And really there is no way to always compare 1:1 in life. You get as close as you can, and make comparisons, but the world, even in a video game, is fluid and rarely stands still. Even an exact comparisons, there are always random variables. As for judging stuff right and wrong, good or evil or whatever... it's what we are. We all seem to have a sense of morality innately, but the specifics are taught, and each society has their own bends on it (often supported by religion). This is played with in the game a little too. Each of the 6 (7 if you count Novakids) races have very different beliefs and upbringings... and all have their own sense of moralities too. What is "good" and "right" for the Florians all but drove the Hylotl underwater and nearly to extinction. What's "right" and "good" to the Apex would surely butt heads with the Kluex worshipping Avians (In fact scanning some of the Apex stuff had my Avian pointing out how heretical some of it was for his kind). And so on, and so on. Each race has a different perspective, and each individual will further have differing perspectives from the starting point said race provides...

And with that, I'mma put this discussion to bed and move on. Was an interesting one LilyV3, but I think we've gone as far as we can here... Have fun.

The florans are not in the Protectorate from what i recall. There is only one floran who is in it i believe.

Admittedly the way I read it was she was the first to graduate as a protector, but admittedly I kinda view the Protectorate as similar to Starfleet. I just took that to mean they were new members.

On my end I kind of like the Idea that the Floran Player character is the first floran to put in the effort and patience to become a protector.

Also, never watched anything Star Trek. Its not really my kind of Sci-fi.

I just started playing a week ago and take it slowly... there are so many new things to check out. And like Terraria this game, even after the MainStory will keep me awake day and night over the weekends.. Really like what i see now and supported since founding status. Sure there are some things to polish or fix but you also will get a great amount of mods for it so i woulnd´t worry.
