Doesn't work with this kind of game. Never understood the appeal (and I love roguelikes and permadeath).

Well it was bound to happen eventually.
Though Personally i would have preferred later then sooner. Considering the inbalances right now.

I like the idea but it's gotta' be option-only.

Then you should be Hard Core like Chuck Norris and punch the planet into dust.

I lost it 3 times thanks to Q button, so i know the feel: being trapped in the sand, not bein able to reach dropped pickaxe, and then you have to remake it from scratch.

  10. I will definitely have a hardcore character. Variety is the spice of life, I've always made a hardcore mode character when the option was available.
I usually super neck beard out and RP him and get sad when he dies (Especially due to lag on D2).

I don't mind it when games have an optional "hardcore" mode, but I avoid it like the plague. Don't see the appeal.

Is it actually hard or is it just annoying? Dropping all your crap isn't hard, it's just an inconvenience. Also dying permanently is only appealing up to a certain point. I'd much rather have an actual hard mode.

  13. To each his own. The hard aspect comes from the one life aspect normally, so more thought and planning usual comes in to play. I've seen games also have a "difficulty scaler" along with a hardcore, or iron man, mode (permadeath).

I think the best done hardcore mode done so far was XCom Enemy Unknown + Enemy Within.
It was a feature which really changed the game.

Yay for the option, nay for me personally using it due to what FDru said.

Starbound now has 3 difficulty modes. Drop pixels on death, drop everything on death and lose your entire character on death! Also pvp

We're going even further beyond 'drop your stuff'.

Straight up copying Terraria's difficulty modes, but at the same time, what else would you do? Happy to see it implemented here.

I was a big fan of doing little hardcore playthroughs and seeing how far I could get in Terraria. It makes the game far more intense because the stakes are much higher. You were forced to think a little more about your decisions. Dying was like having your heart drop into your stomach. Awesome.

Seeing as you can still blow each other up in multiplayer in a variety of ways (Is that getting fixed, by the way?), it doesn't translate well to multiplayer...

I'm guessing by 'fixed PvP', yes, it's fixed.

And Terraria didn't exactly invent hardcore modes. In fact, one of the most known games to have early 'hardcore' is Diablo. Or Diablo 2, whatever's your fancy. You drop your current equipment as is in D2 even in non-hardcore, so that was always fun to get it back. And resetting meant redoing the area.

Hardcore's been pretty defined for ages, not just due to Terraria.

Yes it does. It's also a choice so there's no reason to complain about it. I plan to evolve my server to accomodate protected land based town development and server-wide PVP. The dropping of items on death part is going to incentivize team-building and careful storage of loot. I look forward to enabling it.

I guess Terraria stole it from Minecraft, then, right?
