So from what I can tell....

...this game seems to be a mixture of Terraria and Cortex Command. Is that a safe assumption/comparison? I loved both games and really think that something like this could turn out really well.

 

It seems like there's a bit of Spore in there as well.

 

It also reminds me of Borderlands (the random weapons) and X-Com (Research, logbook, and possibly the base building)

 

I'd say Terraria, Spore, and Borderlands as already mentioned. The random weapons of Borderlands, breeding monsters and tons of planets of Spore, and well the planets layout is a lot like Terraria from the looks of it.

 

I have more of a feeling of Terraria + X-COM, but i guess thats just some nostalgia kicking in.

 

Lets put it that way: It's the best from the games we all like put in one game.

 

Even superman 64 ? I love superman 64.

 

Who knows...?

 

The game has a Superman outfit if that counts.

 

And Skyrim. There is a main quest but you don't have to do it, and you can do whatever after the quest is done.

 

I think you could probably find a round about way to relate this game to almost every game ever made in some way or another.

 

The in-depth storyline and procedurally-generated planets are very reminiscent of Pong.

 

Why yes, that is what pong was and still is know for.

I'm surprised you picked up on that. I thought I hide that in my sentence quite well.

 

No matter what games you reference, it really boils down to "the best bits of most of the genres you like".

What remains to be seen is if they can combine all those bits into a cohesive whole.

 

I believe they can from what we have seen
of course we have not seen any gameplay
But some genres do not fit well in a Multiplayer environment

 

They've drawn inspiration from across the gaming world, but in the end Starbound will be a very unique game. I think it will have a little something for everyone

 

And Metroid. Not that there's a huge difference.
