So, about that character wipe...

Will it really only wipe the CHARACTERS, or will the server world also be reset? My current plan is to put all inventory in chests, but that would be useless then...

 

Chances are it'll be a total wipe, but I'd still try your plan on the off-chance it works.

 

It sounds like it will be a complete wipe. And that is okay because there was plenty of warning that the beta data was not going to carry over to Version 1. This will be an early lesson to not get too far or too attached to characters during the beta.

 

Server worlds rely on the host server's universe files, so, your worlds will most likely be wiped too. If you really have a pension for not wanting to lose your stuff in this beta, then you can either A.) Never update from this point onwards (this includes having everybody else and the whoever hosts the server never updating) or B.) Attempt to cheese the wipe by making a duplicate of your local saves, which most likely won't work. If it does then you'd have items that would either be corrupt or broken with the new system they're wiping saves because of.

It doesnt really matter. Just find more stuff. Life goes on real fast in games like this. You should have expected this seeing as its in really early stages of the game.

First of many. This is early open beta, and not a good time to get overly attached to your characters or creations ^^

 

Considering that the update is revamping the ENTIRE LEVELING SYSTEM, I would think that you won't get to keep your equipment that is based off the old system.

 

aww dang...the steam page said nothing about wipes...I figured character wipes only happen in large scale MMO bets ._.

 

Sorry you'll have to blame it on the companies that use "beta" as a marketing gimmick. This beta is for testing and balancing the game which involves system rewrites that make old saves incompatible.

 

To my understanding if anything is in need of wiping, it is the generated universe and all items, read: everything touched by the upcoming change. So I'd not count on anything surviving, no matter what will you do. Personally I hope that characters (their looks to be specific) will be preserved, less clicking after the wipe .

 

This wipe is necessary because of the incompatibility of your previous game save files with the newer version of the game.
Even if there was some way to keep your previous items, it would be bugged to hell and ruin your game.

 

The actual only thing that I'll miss and I feel sad for finding in the first place now is my in game guitar, I have a massive midi playlist and I'm gonna miss the chance to rock out on the theatre I built on my spaceship

Everyone is duping items anyway. People act like they worked hard for what they've accomplished this far, even though 3/4 of the items they own are duped. Haha

Hopefully this patch will remove the duping also.
