So about character wipes....

Im actually looking forward to the character wipe, I see it as a way to start a new adventure and maybe find some other interesting things for me to gaze upon. Ive really enjoy this game so far and have no issues aside from the rarity of platinum when I needed it the most. Now that I have some experience under my belt, im sure things will be easier in the first little bit of the game.

Oh yes it does get easy once you know what you're doing.
I made a new character today and am ready to kill the first boss after maybe an hour.

It took me like a whole day on my first character. xD

 

Id make a New character right now but there wouldnt be a point in it atm xD

 

At first, the thought of character wipes I thought "oh nooo...." But now I am like "my body is ready" starting fresh and new with the experience I have now will be refreshing. Does anyone else agree?

 

Sure, on this forum most players may be supportive of wipes as necessary to test thing and move fast. But here's what I predict will happen...

1. Wipe
2. Players on Steam forums (as well as YouTube, 3rd party sites, etc) go apenuts, screaming bloody murder that everything they worked for was lost.

• That "beta" means stable enough to not require wipes, and breaking it into "phase 1" is semantic games which really mean "alpha".
  
• That "early access" on Steam never warned them about wipes, and it's not their job to go and research non-Steam forums before buying the game.
  
• That this game should never have been on Steam Early Access if it's so unstable as to require wipes.
  
• That they have been "defrauded" and demand their money back.
  
• Etc etc etc.

3. Chucklefish decides the PR nightmare isn't worth it even if the wipe is justified, and never does any wipes again, even for Phase 1, and even if it means development is twice as slow because need to migrate all the stuff over each time.

Yes I'm like that too, I'm more excited about the patch than anything, cause I get to start over again as another race.

Their tears will be delicious. But it won't be anywhere near that over the top

 

They've already made changes to the game so saves and maps carry over between updates so if they say it has to be wiped, it has to be wiped for some reason. And unless they don't like the new system there might not even be another wipe.

 

I made my Starbound character planning and expecting to have her wiped. Since they told us repeatedly it would happen.

So no, not dreading it at all.

On the contrary I'm kind of looking forward to it. I want to see how well I can handle the early game now that I'm not totally clueless.

 

I presume you are not a frequent visitor to the Steam forums, then. People over there will threaten to burn down your house for making a typo.

 

Same here, I wanna make my ship more cozy but right now it looks like it's being used to carry freight - all my loot. You put your bed in the same spot I threw mine =D

Its fun playing around but it's hard to want to get established knowing a wipe could be coming. But its the nature of the beast atm.

Nope. It states specifically in the description for the stages of beta that it's possible to lose your characters. We were warned that it could happen. It was said to not play this stage if you don't want to lose your progress.

You are going to lose your stuff. All you can do is realize that and move on.

 

I tried to steel myself for the eventual character wipe but, with how my current character is, I'm going to feel bad when she gets wiped :c Its a fact of human nature, that you get attached to something that you work on.

 

Sums up my feelings. Always looking forward to another experience post patch though

 

You have no idea how much truth is spoken here.

 

I wonder, what about ores though? I understand that they'd wipe weapons and armour. But ore doesn't have stats. What if I have a chest of ore on a planet? Or is the planet wiped as well?

 

I tried to avoid becoming attached by using random settings/name, and my house, before it was destroyed, was fairly basic, I never got extravagant, and then I just moved into my ship. But it happened anyway But I've tried out the Avian, now to try... oh, I dunno, Florian, maybe.

I'm ready for the wipe. The first time around, I had no idea what the hell I was doing, so it was very slow going. Now I have a set of strategies and a grasp on the mechanics of the game so I'm sure it will be smooth sailing to the point my original character, Asimo, is at now. sigh, oh Asimo... I'll miss you. Together we descended upon planet after planet like nomadic locusts, destroying crops and wiping all life like a plague. Your legacy will continue in the form of Asimo II.

 

I don't understand why people are SO desperate to save their things. Did anyone else actually read the "How Beta Is Going To Work" post?
