Snow storm and bad performance

Hi,
I'm playing Starbound on my bit older MacBook Air, which isn't all that much powerful. Most of the time it's ok (although the fans are screaming at it's full ), but it gets really laggy, when I encounter a snow storm.

Is there a way to disable snow storms? I didn't find any performance related options in game. Is something like that planned? Is there some nice mod for this? I found only some not-all-that-trustworthy-looking "disable all weather" mod. But I'd still like to have rain for example, rain is cool, no problems with rain...
