Terraria is better in every way, but it's apples and oranges at the moment because Starbound hasn't been given the same devotion as Terraria was given. We'll see when its out of Beta and in its final release, hopefully if it gets there.

As someone who's played Terraria and the last stable version of Starbound from many months ago I can confidently say that Starbound has already surpassed Terraria many months ago at the time the Enraged Koala version was released and have a strong suspicion that even earlier versions were far superior. And this is before factoring in mods......if you want to do that then Terraria is the equivalent of stick to Starbound's automatic laser rifle.

Obviously, as far as opinions go, you cannot be incorrect, i mean if you enjoyed SB more than Terraria then good on you, i just don't understand how you could as my opinions the complete opposite of yours right now, but there we are, thats humans for you! :p

You do have a point with modding, that is something that will cause Starbound to become better with time without the aid of the developers and the main reason why i am a PC gamer, mods just rule, undoubtedly.

I disagree. A lot of starbound's structures are pre generated and only partially randomized hence why you can happen upon structures that are covered by dirt or just generally in strange locations geographically. Terraria's structure's and randomly generated content is more defined and memorable. Also fun is subjective.

Edit: I should note that I mostly mean general world design and not specifically structures because the dungeon in Terraria is definitely not varied.

I disagree. Starbound's race choices are barely meaningful especially since they are all homogenized in size and animations. Race has little to no bearing on the game itself. Also I can be different races in starbound based on cosmetics that I equip and in all fairness Terraria's cosmetics pool is larger and more varied. In starbound most of the 'cosmetics' consist of armor sets over top of other armor sets with a few dashes of wings and poop on the side. Terraria has demon wings, jet packs, bee hats and cat ears(but for some reason no basic elf ears. CURSE YOU RED!). Terraria also has dye for clothes, building materials and hair along with interactive hair which is a huge plus in my book.

Why not talk about it? I feel starbound has inferior weapon and armor design. Starbound's weapons are hardly memorable and the fact they work on energy is lame at best. Terraria's weapons and armor are more interesting and diverse and the armor sets are meaningful and not just 'build this one now, then this, then this.' progressing along a linear path with no difference in playstyles. Just carry a gun and a sword. Shoot till out of energy and then drive in closer so you can hit them with your sword. The only thing starbound has an advantage with is the special 'techs' you get and those could be comparable to trinkets and I feel Terraria does them better. Not to mention that vehicles are just lame on and off forms. That really burns me up.

Again I disagree. Starbound's building system is weak and too easy to use. Caging enemies is still an easy way to have a quick jaunt across planets you're underleveled for. The ease of placing blocks hurts Starbound's combat. Terraria's limitations make it difficult, but not impossible, to cage enemies especially early on. Later on though you will have to spend time to make safe areas for things like fishing or underground outposts. You don't just put up a wall and expect a teleporting enemy not to tell ya to...well you get the idea.

As far as actually building a house then yes, starbound wins out for 'ease of use', but it ultimately ruins the rest of the game. The matter manipulator feels like a dev tool in some aspects. I like the idea that they're making it upgradable, but starting it off as the best tool in the game and ending it that way too is a little disconcerting. As for 'building' as a whole, Terraria wins because it has half blocks and corner blocks and other little polished things that lets you customize your building. Graphics don't count. If you like graphics that's personal preference. Freedom of design and options are objectively better.

Both games have crappy crafting systems.

Starbound's bosses suck right now. Hands down. Unintuitive crap. That doesn't mean they can't improve, it's just fact that they're not good right now. My gut says Terraria will win here again, but starbound does have a fighting chance considering the lazy 'mechanical' versions of each boss. Still first time fighting wall of flesh is gonna be a tough fight to beat let alone compare to.

Terraria's NPCs are laid out more like an RPG with individual design and importance on characters giving them a personality and specific set of items.

Starbound's are laid out in a more sweeping fashion. Less importance on individual NPCs, but there are a crap ton of them. Oh and btw, giving them names doesn't make them a person, just a heads up.

Except food in starbound only has two uses (hp and food) whereareas potions are quite helpful in Terraria and can be fun(anti grav <3). Starbound's farms look prettier, Terraria's are more functional.

This is a poor assumption because it states that Starbound will outdo Terraria because Starbound is still indev. I respect that you have an opinion, but I do not respect your opinion and disagree with a lot of your points vehemently. Starbound has potential, but has a long way to go to compare to Terraria.

Ok, here's a small look into the differences: mods

StarBound obliterated Terraria out of existence through the use of a single word.

Terraria has mods. Yeah they're harder to mess around with but they DO exist and for the most part work just fine.

Also, yeah. Its a rather small difference. Terraria not having easy modding doesn't make starbound blow it out of the water.

I have the feeling that people who consider starbound superior are not going into the metroid-vania aspects of the game at all when discussing its superior points. That's probably not important to them.

Whereas those who prefer Terraria do so because of the increased reward to exploration, combat, unique item effects and interesting boss fights.

alright, so Chucklefish, you have a mission: This game must be as fun as combat is in Terraria, as fun as building and surviving is in minecraft and as varied appealing as you set out to make it initially.

    Ok, go!
