I love the tree farming and was very quick to create my own tree farm. But I think that tree farming may be a little TOO efficient. Multiple seeds per tree. Saplings plants with no space between them. And they grow amazingly fast. It's probably the last point that should be addressed. I'm very happy with my tree farm but it's shocking to me when my trees reach maturity faster than my wheat. Sometimes when I plant the whole line of saplings (I have room for 73 in my farm) the trees on one end have already grown before I finish placing the trees on the other end! Great idea but slowing down growth rate won't make the tree farms less attractive. But don't make them as slow as carrots!
No thanks. I hate waiting around for a tree to grow when I'm trying to make an area look nice, or when I plant a tree, and come back an hour later and see it only grown 5 feet tall. For the sake of gameplay, I'm happy with trees that grow faster,
Seeing a tree bamf up to full height is pretty insane. Perhaps there should be multiple full growth stages? Say every few minutes it gets to grow a few tiles, until it reaches some random full height.
As far as I can see trees really have no set wait period at all. All you have to do is zone them out of your view and when you put them back in view they are full grown. I'd be willing to bet tree growing is far from done.
Its not reasonable to zone in and out of sight to full grown trees. TBH I don't think planting trees should have ever been added. I think trees should have respawned over a certain time after being cut down. I found the metal trees so I basically have a metal tree orchard inside my house. I just broke the atmosphere where you freeze in like 10 seconds without a heat source that is how high all the basically free effortless metal has afforded me.
Yes all you have to do is move in and out of their view. Like I said, I think they were just thrown in and are FAR from the finished product. At any rate I wished they had not added planting trees. Respawning trees would have been better for the game imho.
Would it be impossible to make it so trees don't spawn on player tilled dirt? Even if so you could cut it down and get on with your life. Also, I would never consider building open air gardens. I would only ever build a greenhouse because stacking layers of planted things is like 100 times more efficient. Even my current tree orchard is several levels inside my house.
On player tiled dirt: would you like to pave your whole dirt garden? And when i say garden i mean for cosmetic purposes. I would hate chopping down trees every 5 minutes
I would rather have to take 3-4 seconds chopping a tree down in an unwanted area every once in awhile than be on the hook for farming trees over them just regrowing. Think about it. Also, farmable trees don't exactly encourage exploration. I'm testimony to that as atm I can build my house a constant pace w/o ever leaving that house. I'm more like "homebound" atm.
i don't really explore until sector x anyways. I think there are enough trees and if i go afk for an hour i don't want to be in a forest
I think the pros of planting trees far out weights the cons. Though the rate they grow is fairly silly. The trees grow faster than crops! However for aesthetic value I think being able to customise your land is nice. I mean sure, it's not logical growing trees from another planet in the soil of another, but we do that with plants anyway. I'm usually against updates that take away from exploration, but I think this helps create a reason for a home planet outside of sheer decorative purposes. I'm sure there will be rebalancing later. Also don't the metal trees also produce the 50 pixel metal? I mean I already have infinite smooth metal from that, but I suppose the metal trees ruin the smooth metal economy .
I agree. Random growth would create a chore, and would remove the ability to use whatever tree you want. The seeds idea has been on the table for decorative purposes.
Again, there is no wait time at all. All you have to do is zone in and out of their sight and they are full grown. I don't really care about the realism factor in this game. My orchard produces smooth metal at ten times the rate than you could go out and gather the pixels to buy them. Its basically a never ending supply of free building materials at a rate faster than you could use them if you plan it out right. I'm up to almost 1k extra metal tree seeds. I have close to 200 rainbow wood seeds in stock as well if I want. I agree with the bit about being able to customize your land but the other factors need looked at IMHO.
