So I've gone and nurtured an extreme fondness for slimes in this game, having two slime hutches at the moment and planning a third sometime. This is definitely not for the money (In year 8 and not hurting for cash at all), or the 'drops' per say (I only kill them to cull them back some to make new colors), but more because I enjoy the slight control of being able to come up with new colors, more unique slimes than are readily available in egg form. Anyway, I've noticed one of my light blue slimes has taken on an effect that I can't seem to breed into others. It flashes colors between light blue and green. There may be more of a spectrum there that I just haven't picked up on with my bad eyesight, but it is definitely... flashing.. lol. I'm also positive it's not just a case of it standing on another slime and the colors swapping between the two, if that makes sense. I'm going to try to corral it and get a gif of it (I don't have any video software readily available atm but I'm sure I can find something). Some things to know: This slime is in a hutch that had the witches event happen to it previously so it is coming from a line of black slimes. I am NOT using mods of any sort.
You'll have to post the full family tree of this slime so that someone else can duplicate it. Sorry I have a degree in science.
I've an issue that affects my memory and cognizance so unfortunately you'll probably not get this from me, even if I can appreciate the science behind it (science would of been my scholarly route if I wasn't troubled in the way I am). The only info can give you is what I have. My apologies.
No apologies are necessary. We aren't responsible for such illnesses. They are beyond our control. Did the slime show this color variance before the witch's visit? If yes, should we assume it was black before that visit? It might represent a new easter egg on CA's part. He doesn't ever mention those in his update info, presumably to keep the pleasure of discovery alive. In any case, try breeding it, and see what results.
No, this particular one was born post-witch, maybe 3 generations down, been careful not to kill this one off on accident. Witches incident was back 3 seasons so it's been there a while now. I only kept a handful of the black slimes alive after that and they've led to some interesting variances in translucence for the offspring most of the time. The one that flashes though was most likely the offspring of a pure blue and a translucent one. (By translucent, I mean it's clearly a black slime, but you can see through it, the translucence has only happened to my black ones and subsequent offspring). I sat in the hutch observing them today and the one that flashes (she's a female) mated with a darker green one and they gave me a purple, almost lilac colored offspring! While watching this, I noticed she did start flashing again immediately after mating, so I'm wondering if it's something that only happens when a successful pregnancy happens. I'll have to keep my eye out and observe more. If I discover anymore information I'll surely update here, and thanks for the understanding.
I have this, and I never really paid much attention to it. I don't know about the other colors, but I have seen my blue/teal ones flashing. Just slightly though. For me, it doesn't turn any sort of green, it just gets lighter and then darker as if it were a subtle christmas light. I do know that it happens to me without any mating or post-slimebirth. I'm curious too, but I didn't want to overthink it since slimes aren't very profitable for me. I just keep them because they're cute and remind me of Porings from Ragnarok Online
I got mine before 1.1 myself. I've had it happen a few times, all green/blue spectrum never red or purple related.
Not sure if it's the same thing, but I've seen slimes in the caves flashing when they're about to attack me sometimes. I always thought it was an indication of excitement or something, like they're all revved up and ready for a fight so they start flashing.
Bit of an update. I was so bummed just now as the witches event hit that hutch again. My flashing slime was now black! I go in to sadly kill off most of them and restart the process and I notice one of the females starts flashing blue real quick as she attacked me, so she still lives, she's just... covered in ink atm lol. I'm going to not cull anymore and see how she breeds out, I've added a red and purple egg into the incubator(s) so if I get anything interesting going, I'll be sure to update again.
Didn't CA add something to prevent the witch from doing flyovers? I think you need a wicked statue in the hutch, if I'm remembering correctly. Might save future batches of slimes for you.
Damnit, LOL. I have at least 5 of those on my farm as decos, never even thought to check their descriptions.. into the hutches they go >.> Thank you!
found this thread while googling to see what was up with one of my slimes, hope you don't mind me adding on. i'm playing 1.2 and just built my first slime hutch, and hatched two eggs before a witch payed me a visit and turned my green guy and blue gal into black slimes. my flashing slime in question is the blue slime i made using the slime egg press so no family tree to speak of, and has only started flashing post-witch. oddly the green guy hasn't changed. anyways, i tried my hand at making a short gif to show what's happening since i didn't see one here already. still not exactly sure what's up, but hopefully this adds a bit more information to the issue.
I haven't had black slimes yet, but I've definitely seen the blue/green flash before. Maybe it's a glitch in the slime colour coding?
I don't think it's a glitch, I think they flash when they're about to give chase. They move really fast when they're flashing. I've only ever seen the blue ones do it so I think it's just a behavior specific to them.
I think @LuthienNightwolf is probably right-- in wild Slimes the flashing is an emotional indicator for 'Angry Slime! Do not approach!' Seems likely it's just a holdover from when the black slime was blue. Slime genetics are weird and it may still have some kind of internal tag that makes the game think it's a Frost Jelly for purposes of the flash.
