I'd be in a tough pickle if I picked Poison, huh? On one hand, basically resist everything Fairy, on the other hand, get squashed by Psychic. Not that my current Poison Monotype doesn't already suffer from Psychic issues.
Haha, I actually had a Mono-Poison team myself back in Gen 5. Very underrated type. It would be an especially good one for this generation I think. It's honestly not as good as it sounds. We had one before and while it was fun, I certainly wouldn't do it again. You get matchups that have very clear winners, like Psychic vs Dark. There's no guarentee that the Psychic type team will lose mind you, but the odds are against them. I don't really care for that sort of disparity in a tournament environment. Though I must admit... Mono-Flying would be a HELL of a monotype team now.
Hm, I'm curious, how do monotype teams work if you want to say have a Mega Ampharos on a Dragon Monotype? Not that I'm asking for a legitimate response, but just opinions.
I'd say that's fine, but you have to go mega if the Mega is the only reason it fits the monotype. So, you could have Pinsir on a Flying mono, but you HAVE to make it mega, even if it puts you at a disadvantage.
...*lurks*... TEACH ME SENPAI! I WISH TO LEARN THE WAY OF THE MON! Umm hello. While totally NOT stalking @Dragonith , I noticed this thread. I understand some things, such as Natures, EVs, IVs, and I THINK I mostly got the jist of breeding (Everstones, Destiny Knots, dittos.... (if I could ever find someone with a Normal/Ditto friend safari...), but I wish to learn more of the meta game side of things.
Good question. Fair point. I'd argue that since their primary typing is their original form, they should be restricted to that. So, Mega-Pinsir would really only work in a Mono-Bug team. The reason being that some Megas are actually worth using in their original form in some cases, like Pinsir. The restriction of mega-volving on the first turn really hurts the versatility of mega-evolvable Pokemon, and it wouldn't be fun to enforce. Imagine eliminating someone for forgetting to do that. Yuck. Well, I suppose this is a decent place for that sort of thing. We do a good bit of competitive discussion here, and we've got a range of experience here from Doubles to NU. @Galactic Mindswipe there is by far the most experienced out of all of us, so you should definitely try to make an appointment with him sometime. If you're lucky, he may make you his apprentice. What an honour that would be...
O gee willikers! That'd be soooo cooool! @Galactic Mindswipe Can I, Can I, Can I, Can I Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeee be your apprentice?! I hope I can bring Dunsparce with me! He's my bestest friend evAr! (precede with the "this is gonna A LOT of work...." )
You'll have to understand that he's a busy dude. Perhaps then someone else can get ya started while we await the Great and Powerful Galactic Mindswipe to bless us with his appearance. I SUPPOSE I could do it... Though I'm not particularly good. You familiar with Pokemon Showdown?
Alright, here's the link. Your first mission is to choose a name, and join the channel labeled "Francais". Preferably, choose the name you are using right there so I can easily spot ya. From there, I'll be able to communicate with ya on Showdown and we can go from there. I've got about half an hour, if you're interested.
Psh, the French channel is for lame hipsters. Table Top is where it's at. They're actually pretty nice and not very crowded at all.
Oh, l'ironie. I actually dig Wil Wheaton's TableTop series though. Dunno if you know of it but it's basically semi-famous people playing board games. It's strangely entertaining, even though it has a lot working against it in theory. Our new best friend forever here is a ringer. Don't let him fool you into thinking it's safe to let your Butterfree dance with joy, because it most certainly is not safe. He may not know Sleep Clause is a thing, but he certainly knows how to make me second guess what to do with my Butterfree. He claims it was unintentional... but I think he's hiding something.
So are we doing that monotype thing? Would really love to ^^ Edit 1: In case we do monotype sign me up with fairy, if we do we should only allow 1 type of "monotype" team, I mean after all we have enough types (18 I think +1 which is ??? but which has no Pokemon, so if somebody wants a ??? team I will fight him gladly).
