sidekick would be EPIC you should find them in need (e.g like an orphan in the wild and train him/her to follow you around) he/her could ,point the ship ,keep holds of item if you inventory is full, attack enemy, drive cars for you like a butler, the possibility are endless!!!!!!!!

From what I remember, this was being worked on.

The issue was that your companions felt more like pets rather than a fellow explorer.
I might need to research this further but it's been suggested several times

Wasn't there something in the old "About" section that said something about recruiting team mates on planets and people to travel with you? Not sure if that has been implemented or if the idea was dropped but I'd really like that in the game.

I like the term "Sidekick" :DD I'd wear in full camo/stealth suit and make him/her (Probably him) wear this.

A prime example of a good follower would be Alyx from Half Life 2 (mostly from Episode 1 and 2) and the Skyrim companion mod "Inigo" (see videos on page) who has hundreds of voiced dialogue that reference many MANY different things in the game, or react to things that you do or say. Yes, this takes a long time to program, however, it clearly becomes worth it when the community gets drawn in to the game because of this immersion.
A good example of immersion breaking however is paying mercenaries once to follow you and never speaking up again or asking to be paid for their 500 years of service.

So yes, companions can go wonderfully good or just down right terrible, depends on how it's executed.

"Your disbehaviour turned your follower against you!" (flees or battles, gives a dialogue)

Give him orders (build that house,...)

    Good idea!

I want to combine this idea with the two person veachles such as you drive something the sidekick will attack the enemys

Sidekick's would be pretty cool, for example, a Floran you save from prison, or an Avian you rescue from being sacrificed, or a USCM soldier who betrays his bunker and joins you.
