I think the required materials need to be displayed in the right side of the crafting window with other information on the item. That way we don't have to keep trying to mouse over the right item on the list just to see what we need to make it. There is enough space with the description for many items and I'm sure you can find a way to make longer lists fit but the ingredients need to be displayed better.
