"Vaulted characters stored server side or open servers allowing you to bring characters in"
That's gonna be a big plus for Edge of Space.
Server side characters is why Minecraft works so well online.

Aside from that... well I don't like like the art style for the player characters.
The mech looks awesome and the monsters look okay.
I'm not a big fan of the music either.

Either way indie games tend to cost 5€-20€, so I doubt that competition is a huge issue for them.
It's quite different when two huge companies put out new games, both games costing 60€.

I'm not really worried about Starbound, and I hope for the best for the Edge of Space guys, too. :)

edit: Seems like Starbound has server side characters as an optional thing for servers, so scratch that advantage. :p

Nowhere on the Kickstarter page does it mention that EOS has multiple planets. It feels like it will be terraria with very high tech - one world that you have to colonize.

For example: "A dynamically-generated world"... notice "A" not a whole universe of generated worlds, like Starbound. :)

I may pick it up if it improves, but Starbound already has my money...

If anything, having the two games release at similar times will increases competitiveness and increase the quality of the finished game as each company is competing to be better than the other. So all that happens is we end up with better games :)

Stompopolos Gotta Catch 'em All! Mk.2

Although people who might get Starbound if they discovered it could be lost, I really don't think that any existing fans will leave for it.

I highly doubt people who are here on the forums etc waiting for the game release will leave due to this new game :)

Meh, lots of games have things that are basically copied even, but the best game ussually gets the most attention, and I'd definitly say this is the best game, no contest.

EoS has made its deadline on kickstarter which personally im happy about.
    WHY?
I want this game to be around when starbound is because both developers get more publicity and even though i think edge of space looks rushed, i hope the game does aswell as starbound (ok not as well).

Eh to me it looks like terraria with a texture pack, as said earlier. EoS seems to have some of the same stuff as Starbound (not implying its a copy) and i see nowhere saying there will be awesome races like the avians

Yes we should be worried. They have Sharks. Sharks that fly around in outer space... AND they shoot mother fucking laser beams!

I think that the best we can do is just spread the "good" word about Starbound, most games like this start out slow until someone or some people tell others about it.

    1. People called Terraria a ripoff of Minecraft, and it still sold like hotcakes, so you can't really make the point that it won't sell well based on that.

2-3. While Edge of Space is similar and being kickstarted, Starbound already has a lot of publicity. Totalbiscuit mentioned the game on one episode of the TGS podcast, albeit briefly, so there isn't really a point to be made their either.

Starbound will reach success if it is a good game at launch, I have no doubt about it.

I decided to look for Edge of Space's forum, But all I found were several threads asking for people to donate for its development and none were more than 5 posts long.

    Here are links to some.
Thread "Terraria in space" -mentioned Starbound
Thread "Edge of Space" -"Terraria in space", Asks for donations
Thread "Edge of Space" -Posted by the develpoers, Asks for donations
Post "Re: Edge of Space" -Links to this site

No, we don't need to worry.

EDIT: I really hate their list of rewards for donating. I don't like being excluded from something even though i'd just got bored of it in 5 minutes.
Also, I think those Devs are too business focused and it looks a bit rushed with those ugly graphics.
I'd rather wait 6 months for a better game than one full of glitches in 2 months.

but will it do Terraria good?

yeah that donating stuff and rewards are stupid.dont get me wrong donating isnt bad but that much focus on donating on their site and those rewards are just stupid.and in their video in the page they also ask people money.
i think they want money much more than making a good game but i think developers of starbound want to make their game of dreams.
my personal idea about the game:
i dont like the graphic style and the animations arent my style.its not my style of game

I can truthfully say I'll get both Edge of Space and Starbound. Edge of Space will be coming out in August, whereas Starbound will be coming out at the end of the year. I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of both games.

What!!! begone evil prophet. I desperately hope they don't wait until the end of the year to release Starbound.
OT: I will have to see real gameplay and get a good review of Edge of Space before I will buy it. It doesn't look like anything special, honestly.
