I totally understand. and that's why I love how Starbound looks :3 Like if anyone has play'd Castlevania HD (Harmony of Despair) It has very detailed areas, characters, items, enemies, and everything but using pixels

But its also the companies loss as well. Look, if the company's game succeeds, its better for everyone. Can you imagine say, Halo failing because it didn't get noticed by to many? Then we wouldn't have all these other Halos and sequels. If it succeeds, we may get even more updates added to the game later. Theres a lot of other things to consider as well, but the point is, you should want the big guy thats making the product for you to succeed as much as possible.

Also tho if they need donations (before or after) I would be willing and but lots of others would. I know it would be hard but worth it :3
Also if they had a special edition I'd get it :3
I really hope it does well!

Idr who said it, but Starbound is not "8-bit-ish" and it's insulting to see a comment like that. Go look up an 8-bit sprite and compare.

You're acting like as if Edge of Space is a big competetor, I feel like the market of video games are Multiple kinds not so seperated between FPS or RPG games (its kind of like saying this specific brand is our competetor not the other MILLION brands). the way i see it is that Tiy has an idea that we like, now were followers. Now some other guy has similar idea, can't we just acknowledge that he has a wonderful idea aswell Tiy.:)

The Edge of space might not even be made they have four days left of pledging and they are $5,000 short.

and i don't think they will be successful in this because the pledging has been going on for several months and they still haven't got enough $$$ but they do make it to their goal it will be very very close.

I'm not saying i don't want them to make their goal i'm just saying its not very likely.

Its still a complete gameplay video, something we have yet to see right now in Starbound. Granted the player animations look insanely choppy, the creatures don't have attack animations, and the backgrounds could not compare to whats already done in Starbound.

Here's why we shouldn't be worried:

1: People that think Starbound will be a copy of Terraria are people that are cautiously skeptical. Even if they think Starbound is just a copy, most of them will buy Starbound because they think it's just a copy. They loved Terraria, and Starbound will probably remind them of it. Most of them will still buy it. I can see vast differences, and certain similarities, but the fact is they're different games. If people choose not to see that, it's their problem. Some people are just bitter that Terraria ended, and look to Starbound as the reason why it "Died." I use the term loosely cause it's not dead. Ceased development and dead are two different things.

2: I don't exactly know when Edge of Space development began, but I'm willing to bet it's inspired by Terraria/Starbound as well. It's a different game, just like Starbound and Terraria are different games. I'm not really worried about them taking anything away from Starbound, cause I already know which game I'm going to back. Edge of Space seems like it might be a little rushed. "Recently" announced, but already pushing for August? That spells disaster in my book. I'm worried they might try to release before Starbound, but to me, that seems like a formula for failure. (Releasing a game early just to put it out before a different game.) On the other hand, if Starbound really IS being pushed to the end of the year (Not that I believe it fully.) I wouldn't mind picking up Edge of Space to play in my free time. I personally like Starbound's animations more. A lot more. And Backgrounds, too. I worry their team might be too small.

2.5: Hero's a hype generator. One time, he was trying to get his Terraria videos listed as the first result on youtube, so he told his fans to "Help me make it happen." What his fans did, was go to every video listed before Hero's, and post extremely hateful, vulgar, and downright rude messages talking about "HERO 4EVER", "HERO IS THE BEST", "F*** YOU, HERO WILL BEAT YOU." Whether he wanted it to happen or not, he didn't stop it. I'm not worried about Hero, I'm worried about some of Hero's less intelligent fans coming to our forums talking about how Edge of Space is going to kill Starbound, and how Starbound can blah blah blah blah something about my mother blah blah. But that's just how life goes.

They have 3 days to get 4000 dollars still, on this kick starter. If they get it, awesome. If not, awesome. Hype is going to be generated for every game. The Starbound developers just choose to work first, and advertise later. (A REALLY sound strategy, in my opinion.) Edge of Space devs, however, have to advertise now, to make you want to kickstart it, am I right? They want to generate hype to see exactly how much demand there'd be for a game like this. A lot of their demand comes from people wanting a game like Starbound, and a lot of it comes from, I guess because Hero. If they didn't hype it up, there'd be no way it'd get backed. Not even sure how Hero got into being its advertising agent, but it's a smart choice on their part. In the end, Edge of Space is still teetering on the edge, looking for 4000 more dollars. I'm sure they'll get the money. And if they don't, I'm sure they'll develop the game anyway. Even if they have to put their own money into it. (Which I doubt will happen.)

    TL;DR:

1: Starbound isn't being hyped too much because it's busy being worked on. Videos aren't being made every 2 seconds because they're busy working on it still.
2: Edge of Space needs the hype to A: Get kick-started, B: Get noticed.
3: There's no real reason for the games to be threatened by the other. IF Hero wants to say something about Edge of Space being superior, and Starbound copying Edge of Space, well that sounds like a personal problem. (Not that he will.)
3.5: And if he does, we'll have to deal with his annoying super-fans. (I've dealt with them.)
3.75: And if I deal with them, blah blah blah something about my mother.
4: Friendly competition encourages better performance.
5: Starbound will Hype itself up massively nearer to its release date. But for now, the Devs are working for Quality. For every minute the devs spend making a video, that's a minute spent not working on the game.

I don't approve of insulting others. However I will admit that he is a bit of like.... like....

Heres a secret, videos that show up first via youtube search are determined by the number of comments you have, not about likes. I'm guessing thats why they say comment first, like 2nd, a subscribe last because thats the order of how much value they really have. (I hate when people tell me to comment, rate, and subscribe, I already know how to do that myself).

But this is a bit off topic.... so heres a rock .

I didn't know about Edge of space, after seeing some vids on youtube i must say my vote goes to starbound. E.o.s is in beta stage and look's kind of rough around the edges, while the only few starbound pic's and clips i've seen ooze quality. But i will keep an eye on e.o.s, it could have potensial not shown in those youtube vid's =).

E.o.S is vey low budget at this point and they are asking for donations, but my vote still goes for starbound. While it looks like it has potential E.o.S looks like a bit of a Starbound copy.

Some kind of "drop-publicity" such as a massive feature preview, something like vehicle customization. Something that Edge of Space couldn't possibly offer. Remember, Edge of Space is being made on Terraria source code - it can only do so much. Starbound, on the other hand, can do just about whatever because it's more or less brand new - it's only "inspired" by Terraria (correct me if I'm wrong and it does use source code.)

    EDIT:

I would like to second this motion. I know he hasn't explicitly said it but it seems to me that he's more or less passed off the Reborn mod as his own.

Also his voice irks me. It sounds like he's straining to say everything and that makes me cringe and sticks in my throat. Eugh. Lolz.

LOL: That damn video :giggle:... As a proud member of the RPG Makers & the ShaBooZey team, an Admin in fact, I also want to remind y'all that TB also mentioned Starbound in one of their TGS podcasts, and I believe this was before Edge. Not sure if he & Jesse will play it like Terraria, however the gaming community will more than likely visit & LP both games... and in the end it will be us, the gaming community, who chooses which they like best... or hell, maybe even play both!

1000 times THIS. Why do so many people FEAR more than one good game being released? Edge of Space is DRASTICALLY different from Starbound, its not even a reasonable comparison. I plan to buy both games. This year has been and is continuing to be INCREDIBLE for the titles coming out and how good some of these games are. ENJOY what's there, instead of panicking over status as the "superior" game.

While Edge of Space shares the same 2D style as tarbound the games look very different. I am personally excited for both games.
