Should we have Magic?

We already have wizard hats in this game. I'm already onto the Beta sector and I haven't seen any magic yet.

 

The wizard seems to be of the alchemical variety.

 

I don't think magic really has a place in a sci-fi setting like this. Maybe some offense-oriented techs that the Glitch call magic and frown upon.

 

There has been at least 50 of these threads and I'm pretty sure devs said they weren't doing magic.

 

This is a sci-fi fantasy. I'm pretty sure it's going to be exclusively based on technology. Maybe some of the things it can end up doing are so beyond our current tech it seems like magic, but actual magic? No thanks.

 

Someone will probably make a mod but it won't be in an actual release

If this must be another fantasy game can they at least take some effort to not make it run of the mill ruralist Tolkien pastiche #2543896.

 

I've already got a hammer that launches phantom bones that explode on contact whenever I swing it, if that's not magic then I don't know what is.

If you mean more fantasy style stuff with fireballs and lightning bolts then no, I don't think they will be included nor should they.

 

I don't think the game needs magic, because it has a similar principle with the techs in it. Just look at your energy as magic, and tech as spells, if you will. It isn't called magic, but it serves the same purpose - and I think that is fine in this game setting. Wait for mods if you want to change that. Fantasy in computer games is a bit overused anyway, if you ask me.

 

Don't we already have weapons that also fire bubbles, massive air vortexes, and the like? So we're an item-based magical community, which is a fairly standard magical system. So, Clarke was right again! Huzzah.

That is true... One could argue that it's simply "magic items" but you could also say that about the wands in Harry Potter so......... I think I'll just go cry in a corner due to philosophical implications of this fictional universe now.

"That quote" is a praise for the possibilities of technology, not an encouragement to substitute everything for magic.
